Railways plans to reconstruct 11 bridges, repair 55

Pakistan Railways is planning to reconstruct 11 bridges and re*pair another 55 across the country to ensure smooth operation of the trains and safety of the passengers. The department would reconstruct three bridges in Sukkur Division, six in Multan, two in Lahore, an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP on Thursday. Regarding the repair of bridges in different divisions, he said Pakistan Railways has planned to repair 34 bridges in Karachi, 11 in Sukkur, two in Multan, five in Rawalpindi, two in Peshawar and one in Quetta. He said around 86 percent of bridges are more than 100 years old but all of them were safe for train operation due to regular maintenance, rehabilitation and strengthening of these bridges. The official said there are 13,959 major and minor bridges over the system and the design life of which varies for different years.

Thank you Khawaja Saad Rafique...:pakistan:
Who did absolutely nothing? The railways only started improving under PTI and were in a horrific condition when he left, tell me, when was the last time he said or did anything about railways, all he did was yap about other politicians. But hey. You’re a patwari. Patwaris don’t do logic. Do they?

Are these coaches made in China?
Looks very much chinese refurbished coaches.
None the less, if this revives the railways, probably will add few percentage into GDP in long run.
Railways is generally considered one of the most economical mode of large passenger transportation.
That applies to India because in Pakistan , very less people travel through Trains due to which Railway runs on losses .For India , there are 1.3 billion people ,the Railway will always be profitable as more and more people will use Trains to travel across the cities .

Pakistan does not get enough credit or attention for its historical architecture - this could attract millions. I doubt anyone in the West would picture these stations as being in Pakistan. But everyone knows about Indian Taj Mahal or Thai Buddhist architecture.

GE is great but I thin Alstom is even better ...so we should get locomotive tech from them and build in home at the locomotive factory.

No doubt about it, French Alstom is decades ahead with TGV/AGV, Eurostar all high speed rail, GE Rail(not the other GE entities) is an old horse frozen in time, but their diesel loco's are sturdy and ideal for Pak. Pakistan need to upgrade its main rail track, infra and overall structure for semi high speed trains at max 160 Km/hr. The ML-1 up-gradation will make it happen, from Karachi to Peshawar connecting main cities. High Speed Rail is not possible in Pakistan right now...
