According to a report in the British media, a Pakistan military source has warned the United States to "sort out its mess in Afghanistan, or Russia will". If this did occur as The Daily Telegraph reported, then it’s an amazing development.

This sounds like a threat of Russian intervention in Afghanistan similar in nature to its Syrian military adventure. And no one is used to hearing the Pakistan military put the US military on notice so brusquely. In fact all such criticism has usually been addressed to Pakistan.

Something has really changed.

First and most importantly, Pakistan is fed up with being held responsible for the ineptitude of the Afghan government.

While all manner of terrorists now find succour in Afghanistan to carry out more attacks in Pakistan, ISIL and the Taliban are competing with each other for control of territory.

Second, America’s ability and desire to control events in Afghanistan is fast diminishing. It has too much on its hands in the Middle East and elsewhere. Afghanistan is falling prey to the law of diminishing returns. If so, sooner or later, the US will quit and leave Afghanistan in chaos.

This is, in all probability, now inevitable. But, when that happens, then the most likely scapegoat is Pakistan.

Third, it is now old news that in 2012, US intelligence warned the government that its policies would result in strengthening extremism in Syria. It has done so, not only in Syria, but also in the entire neighbourhood and the US is indifferent to this reality.

Fourth, there is a general realisation that the US is not amenable to reason in its approach in Afghanistan and the greater Middle East.

A mere glance at the map of Afghanistan will show that the spread of ISIL is towards northern Afghanistan. The Afghan Taliban from southern Afghanistan can do little or nothing about them.

The only Afghan tribes that could are the Zadrans, whose best-known warlord is Jalaluddin Haqqani, and the Ghilzai. But far from seeking their help, the US will neither talk to the Haqqanis nor permit Kabul to do so.

Fifth and finally, Pakistan has learnt from its blunders. Any solution to the Afghan mess will work only if it is Afghan originated, owned and implemented, without any outside interference. Outside assistance might, just might, work, but not interference.

In fact, the Afghani tribal system is egalitarian. Not only intra-tribe but also inter-tribe. This means all tribes, irrespective of numerical strength and influence, are equal.

If everybody sits together, they might still be able to hammer out an agreement. If I were in charge, I would call an assembly of all tribes, warlords, Taliban, Haqqani and others, with government representatives.

But the US, and India, still think they can guard their interests through force and incentives.

It is in this environment that Russia decided to host a conference in Moscow with China and Pakistan. Neither the US nor India was invited.

This warning came as an aftermath of the conference on Afghanistan in Moscow.

It seems that the tripartite conference must have decided that it was time to serve notice to the US. The idea being that, if its hand is forced, the US might reach towards workable options.

Alternately, if it doesn’t, it may be forced to pull out earlier. The earlier it does, the earlier chaos will set in and the earlier it does, the earlier it might end.

So as to reduce the intensity and duration of the chaos, Russia may join China and Pakistan in reducing the extent of the current mess that Afghanistan is in.

The only catch in this is American arrogance. Before taking over as president, Donald Trump publicly criticised his predecessor’s Syria policy and seemed to agree with Russia. Now, it seems the American establishment has won him over.

Can the US establishment force another such response from Mr Trump in Afghanistan? If it does, we are in for really bad times.

U.S it self can't do anything without massive support of others.. this triangle tornado (Russia+china+Pakistan) is facing ISIS on the borders just because of U.S either you accept or not.. ego of U.S and selfishness is destroying the region.. if U.S don't change the behavior it will lose all the sympathy and collaboration of all the countries of ME and CA.. we believed on U.S we supported NATO and what we got in return? we spent a lot of money in war and terror.. we got anarchy in our countries.. we lost about 70 thousand lives in pakistan alone. but how long we will tolerate this ? we respect U.S and support on any matter but U.S interest is only depend on selfishness .. U.S should take care of American and let us clear the garbage of U.S in afghanistan.. or work with us and allow us to take any action in afghanistan in order to create peace.. U.S keep supporting india against Pak on every platform.. and india is using afghan soils to sabotage pakistan's interest in the region. on the other hand Pakistan is still supporting U.S in afghanistan rather then Russia for the very last time. but how long? not anymore in future. we hope that U.S will understand Pakistan's reservations regarding india's influence in Afghanistan..

these Russian analyst will get success soon.. if U.S keep preferring India's favor over pakistan. therefore china and pakistan will ignore U.S and join Russia.. there is no rocket science to understand this

Oh man!!! Now we are talking
and some people think Gen Bajwa is not as tough as his predecessor but he has already done quite a few remarkable things in a short span. Another reminder for us not to judge a book by its cover. With a lot more grey hair than Gen. RS and much less grave voice, Gen. Bajwa looks much more calm and unimposing but that's just the appearance and it can be deceptive. This man has guts.

The dynamics of the region are changing rapidly and Pak-China-Russia alliance can set a lot things straight in the region. And by mere geographical proximity all the three countries have much more stake in Afghanistan.

That is funny... Russia will not gonna again in Afghanistan. he wants only secure their interest.

US and Russia need to work together in Afghanistan and other countries I . e India, China and Pakistan have to play their role. but, there is difference on their interest..... so nothing gonna change in Afghanistan

if pakistan and china give a last chance to U.S in order to resolve the interest of other stakeholders for afghanistan.. so according to you nothing will happen, then you are living in a heaven of fools. this is very last chance to U.S either understand the reservations of other stakeholders or say good bye in the region.. no matter what we are not going to tolerate ISIS (backed by india) influence in the region anymore just because of U.S policies to support india in afghanistan.. india even dont deserve the right in afghanistan because india is involved in state terrorism in pakistan, therefore pakistan is putting U.S on notice just because of India.

Lol who the hell is pakistan to put US on notice??? This is as laughable as when Marshall Island tried to sue Britain and India.
who the hell is pakistan? Pakistan is the crucial part of U.S in order to support NATO in afghanistan.. it is laughable that still india is spreading proxy war in pakistan and U.S is keep quiet.. india is responsible to create misunderstanding between U.S and Pakistan

india is one of the reason behind all the mess in Afghanistan and to reach any peaceful solution, indian presence has to be weeded from Afghanistan.

Flawed thoughts.

Does anyone consider Russia capable of ' sorting out the mess in Af " ?

Why would Russia stretch itself out at a time like this ?

BTW, how is this a ' notice ' ?

.
Good. Pakistan need not to budge an inch from our national interests. If you support our enemy we will support yours.

Russia can't do better. People are being unfair to USA. They give billions of $ to support Afghanistan. They trained Afghani army, you know how hard it is? Watch this video

To defeat guerrilla fighters you need disciplined and well trained army. But Afghan army is as good as taliban or as bad as taliban. Thats why ANA and Taliban fights are always end up in stalemate. In ideal situation considering Afghan army training and equipment, they should exterminate Taliban from it's soil like Pakistan army did.

USA could do it but they are not willing sacrifice more soldiers just to clear area.

world knows , what Pakistan wants in Afghanistan like before 2000.

so I don't think that it's gonna happen again because US and work already paid for that.

China does not share country boundary with Afghanistan and even not facing from terrorism. India have concerns due to Taliban & Isis.

Russia have also concerns due to Isis.

India is working with US and will work with Russia if required in Afghanistan. India and Russia are good friends. so no problem with Russia.

who are the supporter for Isis that world knows better.

dont poke your nose if you even dont know the ground reality and history....

Pakistan always support U.S interest and proved that how much we are loyal with U.S specially in afghanistan.. don't forget the soviet war... pakistan was helpless to support mujahedeen and make a relationship with mujahideen during soviet union era just because of fulfilling the interest of U.S..

bit by bit china and russia also surrounding the threat of ISIS in their borders.. China share the borders at wakhan Corridor with afghanistan.. but it doesn't matter for ISIS.. wtf does india share any border with afghanistan ?

india has double face with russia and U.S relationship.. look india dont share border with afghanistan that is why india like chest thumping country which dont face any anarchy or suicide bombing inside own country due to regional stakeholders such as we are facing due to india's non sense and retarded activity.. what if pakistan and china also start proxy war inside indian separatist movement?

who created Taliban? and who is creating ISIS with the help of India... we know very well..

US is soon gonna leave this region. What do you think why US and NATO reduced their presence in Afghanistan? And once US leaves Afghanistan, you better know whats gonna happen to Indian proxies.

China does share boundary with Afghanistan--Wakhan Corridor, bur India doesnt. So, Indians should not be worried of Taliban as they are not a direct threat to India while on the other hand ISIS--a direct threat to Pakistan, China and Central Asia-- is supported by US and India, not to mention the explosive materials and bomb components used by ISIS in Iraq were made by Indian companies.

There are neither friends nor foes, but only interests. Soon we will see US and Indian proxies being beaten in Afghanistan.

u meant to say, u supported terrorists under mujahedeen name. or, that time they were mujahedeen and now they are terrorists.
for us, they were and they are terrorists

Isis.. ... world better knows who are against and who are supporters.

India have only one proxy and that is to stop Taliban & Isis in Afghanistan. we are facing terrorism from outsource and doesn't want one more country in terrorists hand. it will not good for Asia
