What's new

Pakistan orders Dutch OPV (1,900 tons, 90 m). To be built at KSEW

Well, seeing odd procurement is not a new thing in pak armes forces, this doesnt surprise me.

again for amateurs like us , we forget one thing that is cost of operation over life time

What about Turkish corvette deal isn't corvette deal supposed to be signed after budget?

.
So as per members here "One Ship" for now on order more can be added later , that make more sense , COVts from Turkey and OPV from Dutch .
Now Sigma is more likely candidate according to our needs . Mainly intelligence gathering .
Honestly very good move .

  • Patrol Boats , Gun Boats (Gulf craft)
  • Missile Boats (Larkana class , Jalalat II class , Jurrat class boats , MRTP-33)
  • FAC (Azmat Class I & II)
  • OPV ( Dutch )
  • Corvettes (MILGEM corvettes hopeful)
  • Frigates (F-22P)
  • Bigger Frigates (In future Inshallah)
  • Destroyers (In Future Inshallah)

The MRTP-33 are not equipped with missiles only a gun !

I wonder why we are getting so many OPV class boats. Do these PMSA vessels fit in to some sort of new, broader Pakistan Navy doctrine of many smaller ships?

This specific OPV buy could be the PN needing a ship for its own policing work (e.g. CTF).

That is certainly a possibility. Perhaps we are beefing up the PMSA (as opposed to the Navy) so much because unconventional threats to CPEC are much more likely, in contrast to full blown war with the Indian Navy.

i am hopping it will be SIGMA 9113 but specs more matching with Damen OPV 1800.

If PN wanted this single ship to merge some technologies with Milgem and current Azmat class to build its own Corvette in future, SIGMA 9113 is more suitable than luxurious OPV 1800.

.
The Holland Class OPV has a speed of 22 kts
3750 tons, 108.5m, 21.5kn (bigger than most light frigates)

Yep it's either the Damen OPV 1800 or an OPV-ized SIGMA 9113
Damen OPV 1800: 1890 tons 22kn BUT 83m.
Damen OPV 2400: 23kn, 90m BUT 2400 ton.

OPV1800 (crew 46)

OPV2400 (With a tad more space between funnel and mast and aft of funnel: crew 60. )

Clearly a modular design (just like Stanflex corvettes and frigates), with 2400 being just a larger version of 1800. Carries 14 more crew, 50m3 more fuel oil > 1000nmi greater range > 10 days greater endurance. Slightly more powerful auxiliary generators. Otherwise identical. So, scaled on demand.

This is a contract for two Off Shore Patrol Vessels for US$60M. PN had to source these OPV's from Netherlands after USA showed no interest in providing them under FMS

While a Dutch company, Damen has yards all over the globe. The hull for our biggest navy ship, JSS Doorman (27k ton), was built e.g. in Romania and fitted out in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. But e.g. the Indonesian yard builds for TNI-AL. See http://www.damen.com/en/companies
