Question: Was targeting a low speed aerial vehicle more of a challenge than targeting a high speed one? In the news "low peed aerial target" is emphasised. Is the target depicting a low-speed terrain hugging cruise missile like Nirbhay or Babur?

I will come back with more elaborate and particular answer later but it is suffice to say that low speed targets are difficult to detect especially if they are flying low and with a relatively smaller size and hence x-section (radar limitations and filtering of birds etc) . However once detected and locked, it is not a big problem to shoot them down for a missile. Higher speed systems are much easier to detect and within certain speed ranges (Mach 1-2) can also be shot down easily as well depending upon the speed of the interceptor. However speeds above Mach > 3 are too high for any system and needs considerable effort and and if detected at a greater distance can be shot down but the probabilities goes down.

I don't understand one thing.it feels like it is some kind of Sam because I haven't seen jf-17 and it was launched from the ground.it looks like Sam to shoot down drones.

That is a target drone you see launching in the start. Not the missile that was tested.

You can also make out the JF17 launching a missile later on in the video.

That cruise misile rather a drone... If it was targeted at bvr range then its really a remarkable landmark ... Misile seems to be a jet engine powered ... Do anyone have further details ?

Guys targeting such a small target at bvr range requires hi tech information from other assets ... If news is correct and the missile targeted was the one shown in the video at bvr range then it could be a test of target aquisition from other assets while targeting it from thunder from safe distances

My god, not just PAF but our armed forces are pathetic at power projection. This could have be done properly and professionally with chasing jet filming the release of the missile till it hit the target. The footage Could have been used for marketing purpose as well to showcase the BVR capability of the platform.

The target on which the missile was tested was a stealth drone mimicking cruise missile. Slow moving targets are more difficult to target. Slow and low flying targets omit less IR signature as well.

TBH mate i couldn't even see what happened in the video you posted.
Just seemed like the jet terribly tried to keep up with a missile and couldnt because we couldnt see what happened when it hit its target.

This statement means Pakistan installed a New coastal RADAR with very long Range. Good move by Pakistan
