Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari on Thursday said Pakistan, unfortunately, was number one in child pornography and emphasised the need for initiating a dialogue on the menace.

Speaking at the launch of Child Protection Campaign here, Mazari said the menace affected all strata of the society. "This matter is in every stratum of our society.” The minister explained that incidents of child abuse were increasing and that Pakistan was No 1 in terms of child pornography, adding, in that light, it was shameful that "we call ourselves Muslims", Geo News reported. She suggested that a campaign should be launched at the school level to sensitize students to the menace.

She said the society must get out of its cocoon and hold a dialogue on child abuse. "In order to put an end to incidents of sexual abuse of children, we need to launch collective efforts," she added. The minister said in spite of rise in the number of child abuse incidents, no dialogue had been held at any level.

"We even don't talk to children about child abuse at any level or schools or households. Development is meaningless if children are not safe from abuse. We will analyse all complaints of child abuse to the ministry," she stressed.

Mazari said it was sad that Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2019 was yet to be passed by the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights. "Its chairperson is Bilawal Bhutto Zardari," Mazari said, adding that there should be nopolitics on matters pertaining to children.

"Hope, the bill returns to the assembly soon. If there's law, punishments can be awarded in accordance with that. This message needs to be spread in order to eliminate child abuse," she added.

In addition, the Ministry of Human Rights secretary commented that a national action plan for the rights of children had been prepared. He said bills on child abuse were in Parliament and of those the noteworthy one was Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2019.

Social activist and singer Shehzad Roy said there was a need to break the mental barriers for creating awareness about child abuse and sexual assault. "People don't even talk about it with parents and friends," he said.

Noting that the campaign launch was a major effort on part of the human rights ministry, he said, "Parents should talk to their children about sexual abuse and assault." Roy noted that one in every five persons in Pakistan was subjected to sexual assault and abuse but, unfortunately, no one talked about it. "Those who rape and murder should be awarded the strictest of punishments," he added.

. . .
do what you need to do the nation is with you. stop talking and start doing. there is no place for such beasts in society

.
We should sanction these crimes with the most severe punishment.

Yes it’s long due to create awareness among the children, and train teachers to detect and alert authorities about any suspicion. But maybe some teachers and politicians and policemen are themselves involved in those horrific activities.

. .
The crime should be severely punish and it is govt's responsibility to control the content. However what is her source of info. BTW her own class (libtards) are mostly involved in it and outnumber any other stratum by 99:1

What absolute bs is this. I'm not one to ignore or deny any of the tons of degeneracy that goes on in Pakistan but this is definitely bs. There are countries where child-pornography is sold openly on the streets. It's also not hidden which countries produce this depravity. Where did she get this from? Which cup of tea has this minister been sipping?

I actually couldn't find any reports corroborating this. What I was able to find was that Europe, US, Canada, Mexico and Philippines come up often in this topic. Most criticism against Pakistan on the matter is that Pakistan does not have a specific law against it. What this moronic argument fails to realise is that all pornography of every kind is completely banned and heavily regulated in Pakistan. This criticism would hold true only in countries where some or any form of pornography was legal. Only then would you need a specific law against this. I agree on the fact that specific and harsh legislation is required against child abuse though.

Edit:

There you go. Some actual data.

If it wasn't Pakistan, she would have been asked to resign for this.

Are u looking for data, statistics about child abuse in Pakistan ? You are dreaming man, there is no such data in Pakistan.

But it doesn’t means that child abuse doesn’t exist.

I went to Leeds few months ago, there wasn’t a single day passing without news about child abuse or rape where Pakistani origin weren’t involved. So if Pakistanis people are able to commit those crime somewhere, for sure they are able to do it in Pakistan too.

It happened that I heard a story few years ago that a Pakistani who tried to abuse a girl but was stopped because she shouted so loudly that lot people get out from their home and were looking for the child who shouted. The family of the culprit were able to make him flew back to Pakistan in a french town were I lived for more than 20 years. Unfortunately I wasn’t told the name of the culprit because of fear of reprisals. Because they know that I would had reported to the police.

It saddens me too much.

Not child abuse, child pornography. Child abuse is a curse rampant everywhere in the world unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, that is not an excuse for it happening in Pakistan. My point was about the minister's claim only.

For child abuse and pornography there should be a straightforward death sentence. It's as simple as that.
