What's new

Pakistan now among 95 countries to have met sanitation MDG: UN report

Its not that i dont appreciate the steps taken to meet the sanitation MDG, but the real achievement will be when we meet education/health for everyone taget ...our next step/focus should be meeting health & education MDG...

.
While the Western world was first to get modern sanitation, it's still to be adopted by the rest of the world.

953 million people in South Asian region do not have proper sanitation
In Pakistan 25 million people openly defecate
so that leaves 953-25= 928 million people.

Now the whole population of Bangladesh, Srilanka and Nepal combined is about 205 million...
so 928 million-205million=723million people are without proper sanitation
Now we don't know if that is the figure for open defecation or lack of proper sanitation.....but India is the remaining country of interest here.....hmm.....i wonder what our Indian members have to say?
South Asia's largest economy and also largest population without sanitation?

Guys your astute analysis please.

I believe we would outpace you before 2022 because that is the target of government of India.
Indian Government use danda for sure as neither this target would never met :enjoy:

See Pakistan have outpaced India between 1990-2015. Best period for India and worst for Pakistan but we somehow ended up better :enjoy: Things are only getting better for Pakistan.

So around 12-13% of population, still too much. More need to be done.

This proves beyond any doubt one simple fact - Pakistan is a failed country unlike our neighbour.

I wonder what kind of rich people don't have toilets in this day and age?

Seem like still 28% of rich Indians don't have toilet  I wonder who they consider rich here.

Total misconception.

Have you ever read about the water supply and the sewage system of Mohenjo Daro and rest of the Indus Civilization ? Are you aware of the fact that it was the only civilization of the world were people were equal and treated equally ? Going through these you should catch the idea that we were not backward.

Maybe some countries are not very clean now and there is a very good reason to it. The colonial rule made them backward and poor, wars and conflicts spread disease and made it difficult to maintain sanitation, and poor economy changed people's priorities. In our case all these things took place.

if you look at the Islamic world only two regions survived. Persian and Turkish, They had strong history, culture, and traditions, and wanted something to prove. If you look at them now, well the traditions are still there. The people and the cities are still extremely clean.

The first modern sanitation was found from Muslims during the Crusades. Europeans had no idea what soaps, scrubs, muslim showers, and mirrors were and they had no idea about the concept of hammams.

Rich Indians in rural India, there are still many people(men) in villages who would rather go do their business out in an open field, even though they have toilets at home. That kind of rich people.

Yeah, I know all about IVC. Modern Pakistanis / Indians have no connection to that long lost civilisation anyway as they had no idea of its existence until British came along :D :D :D

Muslims may have had public baths, but it was the Europeans that invented modern sanitation system of interconnected sewers, pipes, flushing toilets etc:

@Norwegian I guess what he is saying is Mohenjo Daro, Pakistan was the place which had the first sanitation in history almost 5,000 years ago.

I mostly agree with you but you need to slightly keep your ahead above the Eurocentric outlook of the world. There are always other perspectives ....
