The fire control and related electronic sensors of the 30mm gun CIWS is very expensive, with cost more than millions of dollars. However, compare with the electronic sensors, the gun itself is relatively cheap. IMO PN should go for the eleven barrel version.

(You should notice that in P22 frigates, there are 2 units of 7 barrel 30 mm guns linked to only one set of fire control sensor, in this way millions of $ are saved compare to using 2 fire control sensors.)

think delivery is pretty fast

HP and HD between them launched 30 x Type 054A averaging 2-3 units per year

with steel cut for two units we can expect them to be ready in 2020

all going well certainly 3 inducted by 2021 and 4th from Pakistan will most certainly take longer

Total number of 054a/p eventually will go to 8 per one source depending on budget perhaps after 2026/28

For crew PN shall go to retire Type 21 Frigates and their crew will be available for new frigates.Further it is possible that the crew training in small groups may have already been started.

The technical gap on these two items is too great---. So---it would be a real effort to UN-TEACH that crew about the old stuff and train them on the new---.

But it is doable with commitment and dedication---.

They could also send over the F-22P crews to take over the 054A/P (smoother learning curve), and then send the Type-21 crew to the F-22P in prep for the MILGEM.

The aircraft is not for air defense persay---it is to keep the enemy ships farthest away from pakistani waters---due to its ability to launch AShM from hundreds of miles away.

It is also to give an air strike capability of launching standoff air to ground weapons at targets from different approaches at the enemy coastline infrastructure from over the sea---.

It may need escorts or some protection due to the other Indian interceptors from land and or Sea

If it needs escort---then in that case the mission is a failure---.

The escort is a diversion---meaning the escort would die in protecting the strike element allowing it to get thru---.
