Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

Finally an Air Defense Surface Ship, long needed since the departure of Brook & Garcia Class Ships void the Pakistan Navy of the first ever medium range SAM capability. Congratulations to Pakistan Navy for making the bold decision. While I have my doubts on the reliability and sustainability of Chinese hardware in our environment, this is a significant capability nonetheless.
did we had major issues with f-22p? i did hear there were some issues?
keeping the fact that f-22 was decades old design and Chinese manufacturing has improved light years from that

.
Type 54A had been deployed in Indian Ocean for consistent and high intensity anti-piracy mission for 10 years, so it has no problem to fit Pakistan's environment. It visited Pakistan many times during the mission, so PN is very familiar with it. That's part of the reason why PN go for it.

It's a battle-proven ship.
Lets not get too excited by words like "battle proven." PN is well familiar with the medium quality of Chinese produced craft but the real reason is not what you mention.

Remember that Chinese derive their doctrine to be Saturation from the Communist Father, not Precision what we derive from our Western mother. The military hardware only portrays the military doctrine behind it. Hence, their products will continue to be about numbers, but since we are not used to that, or have money to handle it like that, we will continue to have a mismatch with the situation. Light years you say? I don't see any warp engines installed on the vessels.

.
Well looks like the new CNS has taken bold and decisive actions and this should be highly commended. Good on the CNS ! Unlike his predecessor who seemed to be more interested in games and other yachting competitions. What a waste.

Thank you for your valuable posts. Could you also please tell us about the problems faced with F22p and why PN has resisted the idea of upgrades on F22 p instead going for 054s. I would have thought the upgrades could have gone on along with the acquisitions.

Also, if @Bilal Khan 777 could tell us something about the rumored indigenous SAM system. And what role it is going to have in the upgrade and armament programs in PN.

Inside 054a

Nice. The video just highlights how big the ship is!

The baseline LY80 is 40 km, but the Chinese export agency ALIT is also offering an improved LY80 with 70 km range. That - along with the APAR-equipped Type 054A variant (see below) - would make things interesting.

I really think they are going the plain vanilla version that the PLAN operates, and the same specification as the previous 2 ships. The timelines for delivery suggest a proven platform will be delivered, versus a new version that needs to be both tested and integrated prior to delivery.

The timelines between induction, IOC and FOC for these ships will be shorter for a proven platform and it seems that is what PN is looking for now.

Life inside a Type 054A. An insite into some of the working spaces inside the platform :

Who told that?

Pakistan should buy better warships from Turkey, US, France, UK and so on.
Best wishes!
So, everyone will be happy.

What Bilal Khan 777 is trying to say is that Chinese platforms still have a way to go before being as effective as Western platforms. This may not be palatable for the over-patriotic Chinese posters, but is the reality. You're buying warships for a billion dollars or more. But if the quality is low, if the weapons systems are not reliable, then lives will be lost and will China pay back the money?

What if key subsystems don't work as advertised during battle? Chinese equipment is made by workers in state owned factories. They have very low wages. What do you expect? World class systems?

Pakistan can buy warships from many other countries.
We don't force Pakistan to buy our productions, and you can buy what you need.
If you don't trust our warships, what you need to do is just to give them up, and consider others.

Even the PLAN version would get some stuff done for us ... e.g. the Mineral ME OTHR, which will be mighty useful for guiding the Harba as an AShM (onboard and off-board via the Azmat FAC etc).

These people are not sober, the only one has clear head is Mastankhan. Pakistan navy commanding hierachy is extremely professional force, that non of here can't reach that level. If one can't support his claim with solid evidence, then it's absurd prejudice.

We shall always love and support Pakistan, but shall not tolerate those random smear against China and its weapon system anymore. Enough is enough.

It's like a rat shit in a bowl of porridge.

China loves peace, and can't be foolish to fight a war to prove our weapons.
Time will tell the true.
But we are confident that, we can provide the best productions at the same price.

Very interesting. Does the sole OHP have something similar onboard? What other ships could potentially have the range to launch Harbahs at max range?

Now JF17 is battle proved, as it shoot down a UAV from Mullah. Actually what is the definition of battle-proven? If china didn't have war in the last 30 years so all of our weapons are useless? It brings my IQ down to a new low level.

Type 96 tanks fight a war in Sudan, CH-4/5 UAV fight a war in Iraq and Yemen, PLZ45 Holwitzer fight a war in Yemen, even Type 26 Sniper fight a war in Phillipine with ISIS and in Syria war. Not to mention other Chinese made weapon like HJ8 ATGM fight in Syria and Iraq, J7 fights in Africa conflicts, HQ9 SAM is entering combat duty in Qatar, you just name it.
Not fight doesn't mean not able to fight.
