Nirupama Subramanian
ISLAMABAD: An Indian seaman and his Mexican colleague, adrift in the Arabian Sea for nearly 48 hours, were rescued by the Pakistan Navy on Thursday.
The duo was brought to the port city of Karachi, as also 87 other seamen 43 of them Indian who were rescued on Wednesday from two boats caught in a storm off the Gujarat coast.
Four crew members, including two Indians, from m.v. Lady Hammond and DLB 600, engaged in offshore operations near Jamnagar, were still missing, an Indian High Commission official here said.
Wednesdays rescue operation was mounted by a ship flying a Dubai flag that picked up SOS signals from the boats. Its passage to Karachi was coordinated by the Pakistan Navy, overseeing rescue operations on its coast which saw stormy weather all through this week.
The Indian High Commission said it was preparing to send an official to Karachi to establish contact with the Indian seamen and arrange for their immigration and repatriation at the earliest.
