Pakistan Navy P-3C Orion Thread

I have a question sir. It may sound silly so please bear with me. Is there any cost or time difference between upgrading a block-15 F-16 to block-52 standards and a Block-40 to Block-52 standards?

In November 1981, the Block 15 introduced MSIP Stage I changes to the F-16A/B starting with subblock 15Y and continuing through subblock 15AZ. More than a year earlier, in February 1980, these modifications were already effective on the F-16C/D production. The changes expanded the F-16s growth potential by allowing improved capabilities in the air-to-ground and BVR missions.

One major modification was the addition of two hardpoints to (and structural strengthening of) the chin of the inlet, designated hardpoints 5L and 5R. To offset the shift in center of gravity caused by the weight of these two additional hardpoints (and eventual stores attached to them), the extended horizontal stabilator (the so-called "big tail", 30% increase in area), was fitted. The new tail also provided better stability and more authority for out-of-control situations. It changed lift-off rotation speeds and allowed stable flight at higher angles of attack.

The AN/APG-66 radar on the Block 15 Fighting Falcons was provided with an early version of a track-while-scan mode for greater air defense capability. The F-16s were also equipped with Have Quick I secure UHF radios, and internal provisions for the AIM-7 were made. Additional structural strengthening was performed to allow an extra 1000 pounds of ordnance to be carried on the underwing points. Last but not least, pilot comfort was enhanced by improving the cockpit air conditioning.

The production run of the Block 15, saw 983 aircraft produced over a 14 year time-span, and took place on 3 production lines. The first Block 15 F-16 (#80-0541, the 330th F-16 built) rolled out in 1982. In 1996, the last block 15 was delivered to Thailand, the 11th Block 15 customer. Early USAF Block 15 aircraft were later (1987-1993) retrofitted to Block 15OCU specifications.

The next major production block (Block 40/42), sometimes known as the "Night Falcon" because of its enhanced night/all-weather capabilities, appeared in 1989. It was unofficially designated F-16CG/DG when the USAF wanted to call the LANTIRN capable Viper an F-16G, but Congress wouldn't approve a "new" aircraft, which was politically seen as a threat to the F-22.

he Block 50/52 is the current production version of the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It features the Improved Performance Engines, either the F110-GE-129 for the Block 50 or the F100-PW-229 for the block 52. The F100-PW-229 is lighter and more powerful than earlier F100s, and had been flying at Edwards AFB since mid-1990 in test ship #81-0816. Both engines are rated at 29,000lbs of thrust (129kN).

Any Idea when are we getting the replaced P-3C Orion destroyed in armed attack which US agreed to give Pakistan..

Pakistan and the United States are expected to complete project of transfer of maritime surveillance P3C Orion aircraft from the US to Pakistan Navy this year in an indication of strengthening defence co-operation between the two countries.

Islamabad's ambassador to the US Sherry Rehman, who has been meeting with top American officials as part of efforts to restore the full range of bilateral ties, says both the civil and defence co-operation between the two sides is gaining momentum. At a meeting with visiting Vice Chief the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Muhammad Shafique, Ambassador Rehman discussed matters related to ongoing co-operation between Pakistani and American navies and expressed satisfaction over senior level exchanges such as the visit of Vice Admiral Shafique.

Such interactions, she noted, are important to pushing forward Pakistan-US bilateral defence ties and said the Pakistan Navy's key role in securing sea lanes in North Arabian Sea as part of the anti-piracy international coalition has been widely appreciated in the United States.

As a result of some hectic diplomacy, Washington and Islamabad have come out of a difficult phase in bilateral ties since early 2011, following a series of high-level meetings and trust-building measures. In Washington, Ambassador Sherry Rehman and her team of diplomats have been working with senior State Department, Pentagon and National Security officials to put the co-operative ties back on track. The US recently released long-delayed CSF reimbursements and both countries have resumed working on different levels of co-operation through regular forums of institutionalised dialogues and working groups.

The vice admiral briefed the Ambassador about contributions made by Pakistan Navy towards multilateral efforts for strengthening maritime security and counter piracy operations. He also thanked Ambassador Rehman for her leadership in reinvigorating Pakistan-US defence partnership The vice admiral appreciated Ambassador Rehman's efforts towards resetting Pakistan-US relations after the impasse in 2011-12 and also for diligently pursuing all of Pakistan's concerns including the Navy's interests. He expressed the hope for early departure of P3C maritime aircraft from the United States. He hoped that with the ambassador's leadership qualities, the co-operation will continue in the same spirit and level it has reached now.

well any news of P3-C ordered with AWACS by PN...
had they got that?? or last P3-C would be that AWACS fitted one?? :thinktank:

Great News....... I hope it come up :)
But PN should order atleast 4 P3-Cs with AWACS fitted. That would give PN a blanket radar coverage at the Coastal areas of Pakistan.

the way it works is that US will offer P3C's from their EDA stocks to PK. if PK agrees then the aircraft are taken out from AMRAC and sent to Marietta plant in Georgia for necessary upgrade (as per PK specs). after the upgrade which can take up to 2 years, the aircraft then are transferred to PK. so we may not see these aircraft until 2014-15.

Sir news is saying the planes will be provided by end of this year what I have understood from the news is that Pakistan already had ordered these planes and Pakistan will get these planes by the end of this year may be they are two in number

the other option is to fly these a/c in 'as is' condition and the upgrade is carried out locally with the help of a portugese company which by the way upgraded 2 of the original 3 P3C's in Karachi.

sirjee if you believe our news media who are not experts in defence matters, then ok but highly improbable.
