India's coastline is around 4000 kms while ours is around 600kms. So we need innovation not renovation to our Naval offensive and defensive ability!! This can only be achieved when Naval planners have the capacity to think and operate 'out-of-the-box' solutions!

Aside 4 F-22P, according to naval planners- Show me examples of innovative, what it is ? U214?

A naval blackade will be imbossible with PN havin a sub force of 11 submarines(with AIPs),4 F-22Ps,4 bigger frigz(modified Type 054),Milgem OR meko(In near future),4-600 ton facs,4(requirement of 8) FACS=12....,6 missile boats,6+ OPHs,--- + 1 alamgir guided frig,6-Destroyers........2 squadrons of PAF jets and a 10-PC-3 HAWKEYE 2000 and dozens of ASAW helis...

Yaar plzz don't start with these fairy tales when we have all this then talk about it meanwhile don't start tensions here otherwise it will turn in to flame bs thread . There is no way we can compare PN with the IN and you know it when we have all this then we can talk about it try to understand lets act matture.

Dear All, let's kindly please stick to the topic at hand which is the tender for 2 used MPA platforms. We all know the IN is much more powerful than the PN, and a naval blockade is a possibility that Pakistan has to game for. However, that is not the purpose of this discussion, or using threshold for using nukes, or Kargil.

Pakistan is a smaller navy and hence has a more limited budget. As such, using a platform already used by PIA will cut down maintenance costs and logistics. Also buying a used plane is much cheaper. The key is the loiter time for this plane and also what anti-ship/sub systems are fitted to it, and what arnaments it can carry. Thanks!

May be PN choose second hand P-3 Orion from US. US is going to upgrade for P-8. It should be cheap.

Hi, my two cents is that the P-3 or any US equipment is sanction prone. Rumor is the US threatened future defense cooporation due to the ongoing Raymond Davis issue. The early batch of PN P-3s were grounded for quite a while due to sanctions, and one crashed due to lack of spares back in the 90s. I would stick to Chinese or French, and the latter is also questionable at this stage.

My concern is that after they get the aged Fokker's, PN will spend millions of dollars in Maritime Equipment upgrade for these 'buddhay' aircraft!! It is like equipping a 1970's Volkswagen with latest I-Pod, DVD, central locking, GPS tracker etc!!!

don't worry we have defensive doctrine we don't need large navy. first of all govt is not responsible, its defense adviser's responsibility who is advised by military officials. our navy is first time buying new ships and wait a while we might go further ships ,who says there is less focus on navy they are planning for,

anti ships aircrafts used/new don't bother me anyway
25-32 mirages are enough for present
might buy heavy ships

How so? Tactics we know not much about, numbers yes. Except for the 1970s, IN has had the quantitative edge. Right now IN has 10 Kilos, 4 or 6 209s, 6 Scorpènes under various phases of construction + 6 more ordered, not to mention 1-2 leased nuclear Akula IIs and the nuclear Charlie/ATV under construction. All this versus 3 Agosta90s and 2 Agosta70s.

I agree! In a full scale conflict with India, PN will be the first force to loose the coastal frontier to an Indian Naval blockade! The moment they loose control, Pakistan will go nuclear at the Eastern front!

U mean to say that your generals are stupid enough to let 50-60 million pakistani die in a retaliatory strike just coz the army looses like 20000 troops and the country is facing fuel shortages

I think not , most likely US and EU will administer a ceasefire agreement , that could involve pakistan handing over Hafees Saeed and co, should they be alive ,to US in return for peace
Let me make it clear Indian Govt is no longer interesting in Pak ocupied Kashmir , so there is unlikely to be a threat to pakistan's territorial integrity
