Pakistan Navy is conducting Operational Exercise RIBAT-2019 to review operational preparedness of Pakistan Navy. To consolidate Fleet Fire Power, successful live missile firings were also held from surface and air platforms during the exercise, affirming the impressive war fighting capabilities of Pakistan Navy.

The exercise is aimed at validating various operational concepts and tactical war fighting procedures including joint operations involving all Pakistan Navy’s Field Commands as well as Pakistan Air Force. During the Exercise RIBAT, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force units are participating in maritime operations in various domains under complex grey hybrid warfare environment. Concurrently, Pakistan Marines and Special Operation Forces (SOFs) are also rehearsing special operations including Coastal Defence, Air Defence and Maritime Interdiction Operations etc. The exercise displays Pakistan Navy’s intent to maintain highest state of readiness and combat potential to ensure seaward defence and protection of maritime interests of Pakistan during peace and war.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi witnessed the missiles firings and expressed his utmost satisfaction on the operational readiness of Pakistan Navy. He also reaffirmed the resolve that Pakistan Navy is ready to defend its sea frontiers and would give a befitting response to any misadventure by the adversary.

Can senior members please point out the utility of hovercraft for Pakistan Navy in 2019 and beyond?

For Pakistan Marines , patrolling, recon, amphibious landing, special ops.. etc.

Pakistan Navy is the weakest component of defense against India. No new destroyers , no new cruise missiles , no new submarines... How will it counter Indian Navy in case of war....

In 1971 , India could have easily blocked sea routes.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Please do your research before commenting. In the past the Navy has been neglected as it wasn’t considered as important as the other two branches, nor did it see much use. Wether there were mistakes in that or not doesn’t matter one single bit anymore because the past is gone.
if you would have been filling recent developments. You’d know that the navy has 8 modern submarines and 10+ large surface combatants on order or recently delivered. More money is being put into the navy currently than even the Air Force. Of course the army still takes the top spot as its size is much bigger. we don’t need an India size navy to counter India, we need a Pakistan size navy to counter them. And the current acquisitions are more than enough. The only thing the navy needs now is aircraft. And a naval variant of a thunder could materialize out of that.

Very judgemental while most senior members on this forum agree that our Navy is the weakest link even after the above acquisitions and having not strong enough Navy in 1971 have already contributed to losing the East Pakistan. After a long time money is beginning to flow towards Navy either due to the CPEC or realisation in the higher echelons that's Navy needs attention or due to the need to have triad. India doesn't have to do much at this moment in time due to the sheer size of its fleet to put blockade on our shore line. All it has to do is park ships 400 miles away from our shore line and your shore defences have no use and few above ship count you are mentioning moves out of the ports and they can pick them up one by one. Enemy have invested heavily in the anti submarine capabilities too like us. Considering the size of the ships we hold and for a foreseeable until our fleet gains numbers the real possibility is sea bourne landing threat no wonder we are investing heavily on the marines forces at the moment. We need more investment in the Navy hopefully over the time when CPEC bare fruits and things move forward economically so blocking our shore line will have a unacceptable cost for the enemy and need to have capability to take fight to them. Never underestimate your enemy and never over estimate our capabilities so one is prepared for the any situation like we have face them down on the 27th.

It is better to be realistic but in same way should not be pessimistic, for many the naval blockade may not be an easy task for IN. The Pak subs can still be effective while remaining within Pak maritime zone armed with Babur CM having range in excess of 600 KM. Similarly position of Air assets is also much better as compared to 1971 i.e allocation of JF17 squadron for marine duties armed with CM 400AKG with given range of 280+ KM, further Mirage V though old yet can be effective to fire Raad CM with much longer range. The oly area of concern is AD capabilities of PN ships as F22P SAM FM90 hs much shorter range though stated as capable to intercept missiles, on other hand sole OHP has no SAM cover meanwhile F21 class firgate are old and have vintage LY60N only in use by PN.

Everything seems fine alhamdulillah. Just need a long-range heavyweight fighter jet.
