Pakistan Navy has floated tenders to international companies for invitation of bids for both VTOL Shipborne and Fixed Wing Long Endurance UAV's. A total of 4 UAV's with 4 ground control stations for each type has been invited. Navy has already trialed & evaluated Camcopter S-100, APID and Falco UAV systems in the past. Naval HQ had purchased the locally made Uqab Fixed Wing UAV System from GIDS last year for US$3 million! The tender is scheduled to be opened by the Directorate of Purchase (Navy) on 22 November 2010. Navy has budgeted around US$10 million for the VTOL and around US$5 million for the fixed wing UAV types.
However & according to the current financial crunch in Pakistan, it is highly unlikely that the budget allocation for these purchases will be approved by the Ministry of Defense!
