KARACHI: In line with the government of Pakistan’s vision of ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’, Pakistan Navy in collaboration with Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) conducted 'Tree Plantation and Beach Cleaning Activity' at Manora Island with Commodore Vaqar Muhammad graced the occasion as the chief guest.

During his address, the chief guest highlighted the adverse effects of climate change caused by pollution and emphasized on the importance of clean and green environment in mitigating harmful effects.

He further said that this activity is being conducted with the expectation that it would help educate the masses about the importance of trees in our ecosystem and creating awareness about clean beaches.

The chief guest inaugurated the activity by planting a sapling. During the activity, the participants planted more than 1500 different types of plants.

Later, during the beach cleaning part, participants collected garbage & used plastic articles/ trash from the beach.

Pakistan Navy, besides its role of safeguarding maritime frontiers, pledges its full support in environmental sustainability and conducts beach/ harbor cleaning and tree/mangroves plantations campaigns ranging from Margalla hills in the North to the coastline in the South, on regular basis.

Today's beach cleaning and tree plantation activity is a continuation of Pakistan Navy's resolve for making the country's landscape teeming with green cover and oceans shimmering with clean blue waters.

A large number of Pakistan Navy officers, men along with faculty members & students of Dow University of Health Sciences participated in the campaign.

I think everyday one school should be put in charge to clean some places in every city...

This will keep the city clean plus teach from a young age what to do with trash and where dustbins are. ....hopefully the next generation learns to live in clean Pakistan which they don't dirty themselves

We have enough youth, schools and cities that don't have enough schools will be identified

Yeah but other idiots will keep throwing bags there so the best is to announce heavy penalties.

I agree but I think youth need to do this. Like Japanese took them one generation to get their streets clean. ...It needs to be implanted at young age and cleanliness is half of our iman

great idea and a good way for children to ditch their tablets and mobiles for some good out door activities

Next generation needs to learn the importance of cleanliness and make it second nature. ..so that coming generations will keep Pakistan clean and country won't waste money on cleaning the city if it's habitats keep it clean...

would be better served if we teach one school a day to control their own garbage

Exactly...I was schooled outside pakistan in a christian convent school with nuns in charge...Each class was responsible for cleaning their class so we had rotational duties with few students each day doing sweeping, cleaning windows and whatnot...then we had weekly duties to clean school compound..believe me I feel like an OCD patient when I am in Pakistan....

I wish the same was taught to my people...It also puts in management skills coz you need to manage break time to eat and clean your rooms..and when you go to senior classes you are the school monitor to check if the classes are clean...damn I sound like I went to army camp lolz

would be better served if we teach one school a day to control their own garbage
Can start anywhere but it needs to start!!!

I have seen well educated people throwing trash out their windows...those can be fined...I gave also seen my own niece scold her mom for throwing trash from a moving car ...that was first time I saw hope in regards to cleanliness...when the next generation protests in whatever way possible. ..

This is exactly the kids in Japan and South Korea do at school responsible for cleaning their own rubbish, sweeping the floors of the class room and doing other choirs which infact any human should be thought at young age because it will help them as an adult.

schools here in the UK need to learn alot from the south korean model. they have the smartest kids leaving school in the world for a reason.

I really think if and when children are educated through inclusion by being put to clean...they will have more respect for keeping their neighbourhoods clean

Yes I looked up the Japanese model it was similar only they were few steps ahead by preparing meals in hygienic way and serving with respect and smile...that's teaching them customer service...something none existing in Pakistan, where it is like dandy maro if someone disagrees

I really want my brought up to be implemented in Pakistan...sadly few yrs my juniors didn't have the same coz schools became British and became enterprises ...nuns didnt run it anymore ...management was made of managers ....where parents were customers and their children were kings and Queens who were too snobbish to pick rubbish or clean....enough to say schools had to employ janitors and add extra cost and the kids coming out felt privileged and were floating in air....

I literally saw the change and hence why I suggest this for Pakistan

Cannot control everything with fines, Your niece's school or that one teacher maybe doing a good job but as a whole schools system is not.

Yes, that is in fact a good step and I think it should replicated all over the country....students should participate in two campaigns (1) Cleaning the city (2) Tree plantation.

Can't control everything but controlling some goes a long way too....heavy fines and penalties is needed esp up north where tourists bring their jahalat to destroy nature

I am personally not in favour of the fines but our people are not educated & sensitive enough.. We saw when IK ordered the governor house to be opened for the public for the first time, people turned it into a mess.
