Pakistan must learn from LTTE’s defeat, says officer

.
They haven't been defeated, they still have a presence in Northern Lanka, obviously the Sri Lankan media won't report it.

No, because simply they haven't been defeated.

you are the Sinhala Boy. I fail to understand why you hate Muslims?

In Scarborough, there are as many Muslims as Sri Lankan Tamils. They live and co-exist peacefully. Why cant you?

.
I live in Tuxedo Court Scarborough, I don't hate Muslims. My best friends are Somalis.

There are 10 times more Pakistani Muslims in Scarborough than Somalis.

I never saw them have a beef with Tamils in any area of Scarborough. Only the RCMP.

Scarborough also has the biggest population of Sri Lankan Tamil Muslims [ Nuggest Avenue off Markham Road, they built that big mosque]

and then on Danforth Avenue as well. All of Scarborough actually.

Do you get along with them?

Pakistan may not be able to replicate Sri Lanka’s success vis-a-vis the LTTE but needs to learn from it to overcome Islamist militants, a Pakistani police officer has said.

“The Sri Lankan strategy shows that with military might and popular support the state can defeat insurgents,” Mohammad Ali Babakhel said in an article carried Sunday by Dawn newspaper.

“After the use of force, the actual challenge is the capacity of the civilian administration to retain peace and integrate those who surrender.al-Qaeda

“If the (Sri) Lankan model cannot be replicated, at least it can be a source of inspiration (for Pakistan),” he said.

Babakhel detailed the similarities between the now vanquished Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the assorted militant groups in Pakistan – and the differences in the two situations too.

In an apparent reference to the talks Islamabad has held with militant groups, Babakhel said: “The Sri Lankan experience proved that diplomacy and negotiations alone cannot quell militancy.”

He added: “The Sri Lankan model indicates that decisive force is the only solution. In such situations, it often becomes difficult to achieve the ideals of human rights.”

“The Sri Lankan experience has proved that quality is more important than quantity (while defeating insurgents).”

The officer also noted the Sri Lankan success in diplomatically isolating the LTTE and drying up its financial resources.

“Ending fund collection that finances terrorist missions is a challenge that is also faced by Pakistan. Pakistan needs to revisit ways and means of drying up the finances of such organisations.”

LTTE was defeated when they lost both internal & external support (by "Internal" I mean support from important individuals/groups within government, bureaucracy, military, and politics). Remember, SriLankan Govt. never segregated LTTE between "Good" & "Bad", neither they were ever considered as "Strategic assets" or "Friends".

Talibans enjoy both internal support (from certain important sections within Pakistan) and external support (you know from where, not us though), so they are much difficult to defeat.

In fact, even today Pakistan doesn't want to destroy Taliban, but only the "Bad" ones, at least till everyone of them turns "Bad". :)

.
I've never met a Tamil Muslim in Scarborough LOL and I've lived in Scarborough my entire life. I know Guyanese and trini Muslims though.

Tamil Muslims have two mosques in Scarborough

Nugget Mosque and Taqwa Mosque

They have been there for 30 years, and are in their thousands, I am talking about Sri Lankans

There are indian Tamil Muslims too, but a minority

Does the author know that Pakistan's secretive ZARRAR Unit was behind planning operations and training Lankan Special ops for almost a decade?

The nature of insurgency we face is different to that faced by Sri Lanka, however both insurgencies have the same country behind them.

Again with India behind the terrorism thing. LTTE was a movement initiated as a revenge for Lanka taking sides with USA in 71 war and also helping you refuel your ships in the middle of a conflict.

TTP I the other hand, is the manifestation of your own cronies gone rogue. There is a world of difference!

@LTTE from Tuxedo Court Scarborough, you have been banned multiple times for offensive language. I appreciate absence of obscenities so far in your posts.

I would like to know what makes you come to PDF with ever-new IDs? What attracts you to PDF? Thanks.

Win the hearts of IDP's we will win this war, but so far IDP's are turning against PA & corrupt Govt. because of the way they are treated by our PA & corrupt Govt.
I disagree, they're not so much as against the PA and the gov, as much as they're frustrated by the slow process of help coming in.

It's a fallacy is assume that their frustration equals to some sort of sympathy for militants.
