Kill the ideology via education
Their ideology should be challenged via pro Pakistan national groups. When has Pakistan ever held workshops at Universities. The state tolerates corrupt leaders so in reality they have nothing good to say.

These non state actors in KPK we are fighting today were once our loyal non state actors that fought our opponent state actors.
They have even aligned with BLA now. You want to make more militancy? Havent we had enough already.

China had the same problems Pakistan currently faces in the form of extremism, separatism and terrorism. If you can apply similar policies as in Xinjiang over the long-term and keep consistency I feel one day Pakistan can also win its war against terrorists and secure peace for its citizens.

could you detail the policies which China applied in Xinjiang ?

Definitely something very dangerous. I agree the state has failed big time but gives excuses. Many young professionals from Europe went to fight in Iraq and Syria. They were normal people who were shown emotional videos of innocents killed and then told its fard to go, they played with their minds and emotions.

After seeing this Shari Baloch woman photo with her children, I actually feel sorry for her, she looks a normal person but was brainwashed regarding the sufferings of Balochs, she must have been shown photos, videos etc. What has our government done to counter this propaganda? Where is the counter narrative, how did she get brainwashed, who was the person who she was looking at in the video before explosion? What if she was made to do it? Since she targeted chinese, she must have been told they are here to overtake Baloch land, steal resources whilst Balochs are poor. What has our government and GHQ done to counter this? I bet the powerful elite couldn't care less, they are only worried about their plots and investment, will probably retire in the west.

I disagree with Pti on some things but PTI was in a way a counter narrative party, IK travelled all over Pakistan shouting we are Pakistanis and are one, let's make Pakistan great together, let's fight corruption. In AJk thousands of youths who joined PTI started to praise Pakistan and Pak army despite nationalist groups propaganda. But even that is dead now.

By the way nationalist groups do have genuine grievance.

Yes, what is Pakistaniyat? Where is our nationalism? Why our curriculum doesn't promote nationality? When we were kids there were national songs on the TV all the time. And there were just 2-3 channels. These days there are 50 news channels full of chaos and tu tu men men with sell out anchors working on one agenda or the other. We haven't worked on creating a nation.

The documentary covers how the government countered the extremism in the region. In short, a combination of economic development, education and enhanced law enforcement to cut the roots of support for extremism and separatism. Getting the support of the Uighur majority who were unhappy with the radicals was vital, most of the law enforcement is Uighur and most of the population got fed up with the indiscriminate killings ETIM was carrying out throughout the province, so eventually support for them whittled away to where now its just foreign-funded exiles making noises.

good for you , even though the faultlines in your case are much more pronounced.
Uighurs have a completely different ethnicity from the average han Chinese.
They are highly religious as compared to the atheist Chinese.
No wonder they have difficulty in identifying with a Chinese nation, which must seem totally alien to them.

Do the US way:

Assign specialized kill squads (shadow Army) recruited from specialized trained units for covert operations. Given them Intel and free hand to operate. No restrictions whatsoever. Family, friends, property… all fair game to eliminate terror.

We should go for both . Where terrorists are out of our reach we should hire mercenaries.

But first of all take general public in confidence . The trust is at the lowest and should be regained.

Get rid of terrorist sympathisers from Parliament . Almost all of the terrorist sympathiser mnas are part of this chu chu ka murabba government .

This does not work. It has been tried in Balochistan & it created other monsters without getting rid of the organizations that these were meant to target. Find out more about Sahfeeq Mengal if you want to learn more. It is not appropriate to get into any sort of detail here, but rest assured that this has been tried in the past.

The first step is to understand the dynamics & support. The solution will have to be political.

This is just another gift that we got from Mushy. He had no need to target Akbar Bugti as such, but he could not contain himself, just as in Kargil operation.

I am sorry OP, both your poll is too narrow for such a complex subject. You need to broaden the options - because terrorism is mainly driven by ideology which is nurtured by people who exploit communities or groups who feel they have lost a sense of agency or feel disillusioned and disenfranchised.

To counter the menace of terrorism what you need is a cultural change, this comes initially through a deep dive study into the drivers of terrorism - Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies have done some excellent research and authored working papers - many of which are available free of cost or for a small fee from most popular bookshops in Pakistan - their website can be found here: https://www.pakpips.com/

Once you have an understanding of the drivers that cause people to move from "disillusioned and disenfranchised" to "disgruntled" through to the "activist" stage - this is the stage where you need to counter the toxic narrative though a number of confidence building measures in the community which can range from inclusion in the democratic process and to build a sense of "ownership" for the communities and a unified identity.

Initially what is required once you have a "bigger picture" is a working strategy which needs to consist of education, information, communication, prevention, protection, engagement and enforcement. Fighting ideas with guns and bombs never works in the long run. What is needed is to starve the vipers of their pool of potential recruits by wining hearts and minds and changing the sense of "us against them" narrative.

This is achieved through what is called ICE: Information, Communication, Education - this can be audio, visual, written or communicated through social mobilisers like the polio education scheme, Afterall terrorism and violent extremism is no different to any other pandemic.

The key here is "Early intervention" "Early intervention "Early intervention":

Only through achieving community "buy-in" and active participation can you counter the menace of terrorism, deny terrorists the funding, freedom of movement and space to share their toxic ideology with a powerful full spectrum counter-terrorism and CVE (Countering Violent Extremism) strategy.

Such a program requires a broad spectrum of input from professionals from all walks of life ranging from humanitarians, community activists, educators, academics, legal professionals, health care (including mental health) professionals, law enforcement, military, and policy makers.

One successful model that I would like to seem adopted in Pakistan is the UK's CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy:

To give citizens a stake in countering terrorism both at the prevent and protect stage Pakistan should consider a program in-line with the popular "First Observer" scheme in the USA:

A final note "Mercenaries" NEVER WORK!

So REFRESHING to read those two mature posts back to back.

I wonder if you have either of you come across the work of Robert Thompson. My father in his anti-Naxal campaigns followed him (and Sir Gerald Templer) almost like textbooks. However, the core recommendation, to take care of the poverty and disenfranchisement that caused the trouble in the first place, was never taken seriously. Politicians never take a problem seriously, until it has become military in nature.

The current government insults the military, then wonders where justice is, but when we criticize a few corrupt generals who are promoting this imported government, we're reminded of our constitution. It's a dictatorship in a democratic state.
The existence of a state actor of this kind is not a problem when the banana republic is clearly torn apart by injustice. In the same way, their policies have turned 220 million people against them. Balochistan is a relatively small region with only a few issues.
Look at the remarks that LHC's chief justice made about President and you can see that they only care about their dynasty. What do you think is more important, bringing peace to the nation or bringing more elements in, and let me tell you, this is just the beginning. This is the same actor who is playing in the country of Bangladesh's creation and these same hypocrites are making a fool of themselves again. It is not a surprise that when there is injustice in the society, then of course these types of people will easily exist. Never seen a BLA female with a Master's degree and two kids become a suicide bomber before, this is alarming. There is a real issue with the state's policies here.

It's no wonder that many of these same people treat baloch people so unfairly. This picture is a clear example of neutral hypocrisy.

There’s a very solid strategy to eradicate all of this TTP/BLA crap. And it’s. A program that is openly enforced in the UK.

It involves education.
Education is the most power tool that we have against these retards. If we educate them against the TTP and co, whilst at a young age, we’ll have eradicated an entire generation of the twisted mindset.

A direct attack on the TTP is out of the question, as it will only cause more anger. However, using the ISI to continually take out leadership positions of the TTP/BLA is the only feasible option. Using foreign guns/mercenaries could lead to another taliban insurgency like in Afghanistan. Sniper and hitmen teams would be better to perform these tasks rather than drones, which cause collateral damage as well

There seems to be some sorts of disconnect .......... Pakistan's strategists (obviously only one loyal patriot institution) doesn't seem to have this capability to think out of the box solutions, they and their tactics are stuck somewhere in the past.

How come an educated woman got so much radicalized that she blew herself up even when she has young children? Why? What ideology and what forced an educated family go to these lengths? Why enemies of Pakistan are so successful in brainwashing Pakistanis and using Pakistanis against Pakistan? Why?

There is something wrong somewhere and most of us should already know by now.

As long as this one institution keeps blatantly trespassing and violating constitution and keeps other institutions from developing and becoming strong and independent, as long as they keep thinking that they are the only intelligent patriotic breed .......... there is no counter narrative to TTP, BLA, ISIS, Al Qaida and so on and so forth.

You need loyal hardworking intelligent dedicated teachers .......... not some bikkay huay Jarnail / judge / bureaucrat to fix these problems.
