New Delhi: Pakistan on Thursday likened Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj's efforts to help patients across the border, by awarding them a medical visa, an act of 'Indian gimmickry'.

The shocking statement has come to the fore after the two countries ran into a fresh state of coldness after Pakistan planned to release criminal mastermind and terrorist Hafiz Saeed.





Although Sushma's humanitarian approach to Pakistani patients has received plaudits around the globe, it is surprising how the neighbouring nation made such a statement, considering the fact that one of its own citizens was benefitting from it.

The distasteful statement has already sparked a massive debate online. In a statement, Pakistan Foreign Office has said: “No one is fooled by Indian gimmickry, it's not a gesture of compassion, but cold-blooded politicking.”

Over the past few months, Swaraj has helped several Pakistani nationals by approving their medical visas, and some of them have expressed their gratitude to her. On Twitter, she can be seen regularly helping out Pak nationals in getting a medical visa.

The statement is not only surprising but also insulting to the external minister who has helped all the ailing Pakistani nationals who have approached her. In return, all Pakistan could return was mockery and insult.

What is the reason for placing hindrances in medical visa in the first place? It is being done only so that Sushma Swaraj can get coverage for solving petty problems that she herself created.

I guess we both know the difference between other countries and India - Pakistan. It's very hard to get a visa for an Indian to get into Pakistan and vice versa.

Sushma Swaraj only responds to the people asking her for Indian visa on Twitter. If that gets attention (or, advertisement as you call it) then it wasn't the purpose in the first place.

Pakistanis need to realize given the situation between the two countries, she does her bit when contacted on Twitter. She could have done this from day 1 if she wanted to make news. Pakistanis should concentrate on developing skills in their own doctors and developing hospitals and resources or they are free to avail these services in other countries.
The issue here sadly is no one is thinking of the plight of these patients. It hurts their ego that they cannot match India even in health care. That is the true reason nothing else.

no I dont agree with it, why do Sushma have to help someone get a medical visa. It shows inhuman Indian policy that in order to get a medical Visa a person has to apeal to you foreign minister.

A good deed is one which is not advertised on twitter. The same applications could be handled by the qualified people at the embassy. Imagine helping a person and then playing it all out on twitter.

None of the people who were involved in the attacks ever had any connection with medical visas. If there is any reason to be extra vigilant, the only way the visas can properly checked is by the embassy personnel who work in the background. There is absolutely no extra benefit of the Sushma Swaraj getting involved in it, as she won't be processing each application herself.

I'm sorry if you feel that. This gesture wasn't possible before as none of the previous foreign ministers were as responsive as Sushma.

Like I said in my previous post, it isn't easy to get a Pakistani Visa for an Indian for ANY purpose (heck, even marriages are delayed due to visa issues) but Sushma, IMO, is doing a wonderful job by directly getting involved in such processes (which isn't required for her to do).

So it isn't about Medical Visa as you're making it out to be, it's about the Indian Visa which is difficult to obtain for someone from Pakistan and she's going out of the way to help your countrymen.

I would say the guys whose lives were saved bcz our own medicare is highly mediocre ( let's call spade to spade. Not even our leaders get treated here. They don't trust our doctors nor our medical equipment), would vehemently disagree with that statement.

My view. This is an irresponsible statement from an inept that should be ashamed of its performance in the medical field and rather than hurling insults to a country which has improved its medical facilities greatly, they should focus on building state of the art medical care so that our people won't have to go around the world the get most basic human necessity.

Guys I love patriotism but let's be fair. We are in the wrong in this incident and the govt should be rightly scolded for this statement. Aik incompetence aur phir haramzadgi. Had hoti gai yar. Koi sharam hoti hai. Koi haya hoti hain.

Today the govt has failed its citizens that they go to India for medical care.

As for twitter, advertisement and one or two devious points, that's just rubbish excuses....

Bottom line is that if our medical care was adequate, nobody would go to india.

She is only replying to people who are approaching her on Twitter. These people do it to speed up the process. There's a high chance that their visa may not get approved by "qualified people at the embassy". These people are desparate to get the Visa for obvious reasons so they quote Sushma on Twitter. That creates an advertisement but that wasn't the intention at all.

None of the people who were involved in the attacks ever had any connection with medical visas. I know majority of the people think like you. But it was very unfortunate to call Sushma's gesture as a politically motivated gimmick.

The only thing she gains out of such gestures is her fan following across India and nothing else. She has also established herself as someone who is quick to respond and we value that a lot.
