Pakistan minister eyes Bollywood ban for Eid

I also don't understand why previlage indian industry over Pakistan's?
If we want to open up than why not give equal opportunity to the all world?
Why hollywood movies are banned?
If i remember in 80's half of Lahore cinemas use to show English movies and half use to show Pakistani movies.
This govt. should apply for indian passports, if they fell more patriotic about india than indians it self.
On a second thought when i see RAW's grip over Pakistan govt. than i get all answers.

man your getting worse day by day lol now raw had a grip over the GOP as well lol please consult a specialist soon.

Indian films only hope for Pakistani cinema
By Jamal Shahid
Monday, 15 Feb, 2010

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s film industry is sick, so sick that cinema houses have closed and the 150 which are still open survive on charity.

“If the government did not permit Indian films, the remaining 150 cinema houses would also be converted into commercial plazas and wedding halls.

The situation is bad. Out of these 150 less than 70 are showing films,” officials with the ministry of culture said.

“The only reason Pushto films are being made is that they have a market in Afghanistan,” said an official.

Pakistan’s film industry has fallen on such bad days that the people who had brought glory to it in the past are seeking handouts to survive.

In a recent meeting with USAID, it was sad to learn that a delegation headed by chairperson Senate standing committee on culture Nilofar Bakhtiar and comprising of representatives from the ministry of culture, actors and producers was begging the Americans to save the dying film industry.

Sources in the ministry said USAID was ready to fund only if feasibility plans included job creation, sustainability as well as accounting, auditing and transparency.

The USAID officials said money could be provided only through proper channels for maximum utilisation.

According to the ministry of culture, lack of expertise in making good films was the major reason for the slum in the industry.

“It does not matter how good the direction, acting, music and script is. Everything suffers if quality is poor,” said a source in the ministry.

He said the government was also considering post-production facilities. “A delegation headed by Ms Nilofar Bakhtiar is likely to meet the prime minister to convince him for funds for film processing labs at Pakistan National Council of the Arts,” he said.

The source said film producers spent $70,000 to $100,000 to get their films processed from Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai that not only increased the costs manifolds but also discouraged investors.

“Cinema houses already converted into commercial plazas and wedding halls are in violation of laws because the land had been provided to them only to build cinema houses,” he said.

In an attempt to revive the cinema- going tradition, the ministry of culture had suggested to the provincial governments to include cinema houses in housing schemes. This was done following recommendations from the Senate standing committee on culture.

According to the ministry, downfall of the film industry had also rendered thousands of people unemployed.

“Directors, actors, musicians and writers alike are miserable. Some renowned musicians did not have money to buy medicines,” he said.

Indeed a sorry state of affairs when it comes to the movie industry in Pakistan:cry:.
Perhaps the Chinese friends would be willing to bail out the ailing movie industry???:D

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is eyeing a possible ban on Indian films in cinemas for the upcoming Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr, purportedly to encourage the flagging local industry, its culture minister said Tuesday.

“We want to benefit our industry and facilitate Pakistani producers by temporarily banning Indian movies at Eid al-Fitr,” Aftab Shah Jilani told AFP.

DO it ,
Ban indian films.

. .
I dont get why they're just banning it just for Eid? If they want to ban bollywood, then ban it permanently

If Pakistan is banning bollywood films just to promote their own industry then going by ur logic India should also ban Pakistani artists. So many actors, musicians from Pakistan perform in India and are loved by Indians.
Regardless of what Pakistan does ,for me Pakistani artists are always welcome in India coz that is the only way forward.

Pakistan cable operators want Indian TV channels back
Saturday February 04, 2006 (1610 PST)

LAHORE: The Pakistan governments decision to ban 35 Indian and foreign channels has invited the wrath of the cable operators across the country who have threatened to completely black out the Pakistani channelswhich they believe are behind the government moveif the ban is not lifted soon.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), which regulates satellite broadcasting, had recently banned 35 foreign TV channels, many of which are Indian. The move led to a war of words between the PEMRA higher-ups and the office-bearers of Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (CAP).

The PEMRA, which works under the ministry of interior, is given sweeping powers to allow or disallow any satellite channel from airing in the country. The tussle eventually prompted the CAP to block transmissions of two major Pakistani channels Geo owned by Mir Shakilur Rehman and ARY owned by Abdul Razzaq Yaqub. Both the media giants recently formed the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA).

The cable operators maintain they have suffered huge losses due to the ban as a majority of their clientele is addicted to Indian channels and have withdrawn their subscriptions. Some Indian channels, Star Plus in particular, are the main source of revenues for these operators. The cable operators complain that they do their business in a permanent state of insecurity, knowing that the government could snatch their livelihood at any time. In just a little over four weeks since the ban was imposed, the revenues of the cable operators have dropped 50 per cent because of disconnections. The operators say the Pakistani channels, especially Geo and ARY, have substantially increased the content of Indian entertainment TV programmes in their channels.

Justifying the CAP`s decision to ban the Geo and ARY, the president of the association Malik Furqan Ghias accused the PBA of instigating and backing the PEMRA to prohibit the cable operators from airing Indian channels while allowing the Pakistani channels to keep showing Indian content themselves.

Following a three-day CAP ban, the Broadcasters Association was compelled to approach the cable operators to resolve the issue. However, during a meeting on February 1, the CAP again accused Geo of showing Indian content in violation of the agreement and subsequently threatened to completely black out the Pakistani channels.

As for rest of your post it is a rant..so I won't bother answering!!

First of all, how you guys are comparing movies and TV channels.

As far as TV channels go, except for Ptv news, no other Pakistani channels are are baned in India (except J&K). People do not see much of them as they are not shown by the cable operators due to paucity of demand.

Now regarding the movies, IMHO, banning bollywood movies are not going to help Lollywood as aparent from previous experiences. In fact it will ruin most of the theatre owners also. The best way to bring Lollywood out of the present situation, is to improve the quality of movies and release it world-wide (including India). There were 100s of urdu movies produced in India which did well inside India and there is no reason why Lollywood movies will not do well. If I remember correctly, Ramchand Pakistani did well in few multiplexes it was released in India.

Regards.

If Pakistan wants Pakistani film industry to prosper they should not ban Indian movies because competition is never bad, by competing with Indian film industry Pakistani film industry will improve, that's how the market works, if no competition is there Pakistani film makers will keep churning out the same crap and make money and won't bother or strive to improve

In fact I believe both the industries should collaborate a lot, India has quality institutes and infrastructure where Pakistani talent can learn direction, editing, SFX and more

way a go partner!!
I dont want all of SWAB earned during ramadan to be wasted on a single imran hashmi film

I am all for banning Indian movies not because these are Indian movies BUT because these are useless as useless as our own ones.

As far as technology and facilities are concerned indeed Indian film industry is advanced one .

and yes if our people from movie world go to India for training its a good idea and step.

.
Take this as an opportunity, Learn film making techniques from Bollywood and use it to make good meaningful movies.

I want to watch good movies frm lollywood.

And dnt miss watching singing coompetition program in STAR tv, Children from Pakistan and India are participating in it.

.
till 1960s our film industry was ahead of the indian one! our actors like WAHEED MURAD were on par or better than the indian actors!

however, since the whole PUNJAB domination of Pakistan film industry and noori nath & mualla jutt films of SULTAN RAHI we were progressing very well!!

then came the 80s and 90s destroyed our family industry for good!

but hats off to india for maintaining their standards and actually moving them ahead!

BUT I HATE the fact that our actors go to india and act in star plus shows and indian shows!!!!

however, Pakistan has talent look at our dramas like alpha bravo charlie & movie like KHUDA KAAY LIYAY! so we have talent all we need is proper platform!

.
Some say if the Zia Ul Haq era never came, Lollywood and Bollywood would be head to head with each other.
