Pakistan may join peace force: Aziz

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 3: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday said that Pakistan would consider contributing troops to an international peacekeeping force in Lebanon, if such a request was made.

Talking to reporters after his speech in which he demanded immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and constitution of a UN force, he said: “Pakistan is the largest contributor to international peacekeeping operations and if requested, it will consider contributing troops for Lebanon.”

The prime minister said Pakistan desired a peaceful, negotiated settlement of the crisis and was strongly against the use of force.

“No civil society can allow killings of its women and children,” he said.

Mr Aziz described the situation in Lebanon as “a great human tragedy” and said Pakistan fully supported the peacekeeping efforts. He said the OIC could play an important role as it represented the Ummah. He said an immediate ceasefire was the quickest solution to the crisis.

Siniora calls to include Pak force among international forces if deployed
Updated at 2055 PST
Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora on Saturday asked to include Pakistani forces among the international peace keeping forces if deployed in the war-hit Lebanon.

Middle East is a lost cause to peace.

The Hizbs or Hamas will keep needling and the Israelis will react with all its fury.

And to quote Paksitan's Daily Times

The Arabs never “lose” because they never surrender. Thus they do not formally give up anything. The leaders that brought on failure and the groups that did not triumph become heroes for being able to claim that they courageously fought the enemy without being crushed. The important points for them are that they gained revenge by inflicting damage

The force is a smoke screen for peacemaking. France is now onboard with the WOT. Syria and Iran will now have their western flank threatened as well. This force will not be a conventional peace "keeping" force, but one with the teeth to strike into Syria, when the time comes.

Dunno about this Salim, I still have hopes. Mainly that Bashar al-Assad will defect to the west when the pressure goes on.

Logically there was no reason for the Hizb to do what it did and create this conflagration.

It was just to test Israeli tactics (for Iran) and at Lebanon's expense since it has a mixed population.
