Trade will not make the Pakistani army give up its claim to Kashmir. Trade is good for the average person who wants access to a new market/ goods , but lets not get delusional here.

.
our policy makers gone mad :taz: ...surplus diesel that too in a country like India :hitwall:
why not to reduce the Diesel price and help the overburden common people of our country

If the refineries in India are not owned by GOI and are private they can simply turn of the tab and produce enough to keep the prices high but this way they will earn extra cash and keep more people employed.your policy makers in this case are right it will benefit both countries plus it will bring more trust between 2 countries i think its a good news what i am noticing is GOP making some decisions that make international community not much happy first gas from Iran and now this excellent.

a good development that must be welcomed and encouraged.
we've made enough wars, now lets make some money

.
pakistanis shud appreciate this. indian people don't want any skirmish with pakistanis. who doesn't want to live a peaceful life. i am sure even pakistani common awaam thinks the same.

so the bottom-line is, its the govt and groups with vested interest that create war mongering atmosphere.

now with a good amount of trade, interdependency will increase. now some pakistnais will think that india being an exporter wud dictate terms with pakistanis but understand that any loss of trade will be a huge loss of revenue for india and hence india necessarily isn't in a favorable position to dictate terms in case of hostility.

so we all should compel the govt to always be friendly for the sake of its citizens which will be achieved by high amount of trade.

Both, because with closer relations.. we won't have to worry about each others nukes flying over our head.

exactly. in the future when india thinks of nuking pakistan and reliance's assets are in great danger, these guys have the credibility and influence in govt policy making. it will compel govt to stop army from taking extreme steps.

similar if not same will be pakistan's case

Nobody is worried about nukes flying over our heads.
This is pure business deal, same way we want pakistani cement/onions.

Why would India nuke pakistan. We have no first use policy. Why would reliance build asset in pakistan to be able to sell diesel.

A good step indeed. More such initiative needs to be taken. This will definitely ease little bit of tension.

Indeed that is partly true. When there are economic and financial stakes in a relationship, there is little (if any) incentive to throw all that away by indulging in warfare.

That is the essence of the Sino-Indian relationship at the present juncture. Which is why the relationship is stable, never mind what warfare Indian and Chinese posters indulge in on PDF. :)

Now wrt Pakistan, there is still a huge scope for increasing trade and economic relations which will be beneficial to both countries. That can be thought through carefully and acted upon. This kind of thing could well have happened earlier, but it did not. Take for example the MFN status issue.
But all this must be decided by economists and trade professionals, not by Mullahs and Babajis. Or even the Khakis or OGs for that matter! If trade has to be controlled in order to protect domestic sectors, that is perfectly understandable. But if any random man in a beard says that it cannot be allowed to happen; that is absurdio ad infinitum.

So this opening up is a good sign. Let it progress strictly on the basis of economic considerations.
