The 5th gen should be at the bottom of the list right now---. There is no need for it now----only 4th gen and 4.5 gen would do very well.

China's 5th generation efforts are many years away from reaching the international market, there is very little point in discussing it in the context of today's PAF. I think given the nature of Chinese-Pakistani defence relations, we can be assured that the PAF will keep abreast of the J-31 program, they're not oblivious to it.

As MastanKhan said above, the PAF's priorities at this time are focused on JF-17 and acquiring additional medium weight multi-role fighters (ideally F-16C/D). Besides this, PAF is apparently looking for a twin engine fighter for use in Southern Command's maritime theatre.

There is nothing like 4th gen or 5th gen its all marketing terms. Technology keeps on getting better and better.
When we generally talked about 5th gen its the technological system not the plane and the plane whether raptor, or f-35 are just a part of the system that includes satellites, AEW, EW equipments combined to work as a unified and integrated system. Without the systems these planes are nothing.

Do Pak have any other reliable optionother than J31. We should involve in early production stage of this next gen fighter jet and try to get a final product as per our requirements. We should go for improvement in service ceiling and speed. The next gen fighters surely will have Mach2+ speed with service ceiling over 60,000/-Feet.

Being a layman I still consider following grey areas in our JF17 block-II.

1. Speed given at max is between Mach 1.6 to 1.8 not up to mark. It should be sustainable up to Mach2.00.
2.Service ceiling of 55500 feet App need to improved at least up to 60,000 ft plus.
3. It should have IRST and AESA radar. We may get them easily even for block -2 from China though little bit with shorter ranges but will enhance capability even more than our existing F16s,.
4. Engine smoke should be controlled along with heat signatures.

At this point, best option is Su-35 if available otherwise go forJ-10C with TOT. J-10C has Mach 2.0 speed with ceiling of 59055 ft, has IRST and AESA radar & non-smoky engine.

In near future with more advanced & powerful engine, ceiling figure of 60,000+ ft can be easily achieved.

China is ready to deploy J-20 squadron next year. Pt 2016 , the 7th prototype has flown and is the finalized version. Production line has set up and ready to rock. J-31 if with comfirm customer will be able to deliver to customer in 3 years time.

One way or other pak has to choose twin engine jet most stupid people on forum discuss maintanance fuel money but their mindset stuck at one place we cant fill our bags with one kind of weapon when going into battlfield we need to have choices in war time

Hope whatever we choose it should be two engine jet countries like egypt indonesia iman etc choose two engine jets over cost effective


We should start with SU 35 it will be stop gap jet and our pilots gets good info how future jet will be SU 35 4.5 gen once we enter in 4.5 from 3 generation we get easy job for pilots

I have query ...

The J-31 is stated to have an overall payload of 8 metric tons and internally can carry only 4 X AAMs. Internal weapons bay capacity is important, because weapons carried internally help maintain the stealth profile. This would mean that most of it's payload would be carried under the wings and hence increasing the RCS and compromising the stealth profile, especially in the strike mission load-out.

Also its combat radius is stated to be 1200km. Is it with external load (non-stealthy) or without external load (stealthy)?
Because stealth and mission radius are key factors here.

How beneficial would this fighter be, which apparently is stealthy only in air-to-air roles (presumably) within a reduced combat radius and un-stealthy in every other mission profile?

Your input on this would be greatly appreciated.

yes... yes... BUT F-35 too carries only 4 AIM 120s.. internaly.. even mighty raptor F-22 carries 6 AIM120s INTERNALLY
