STOCKHOLM: China has eased ahead of Germany and France to become the world's number three arms exporter after the United States and Russia, a Stockholm-based think-tank said Monday.
The volume of the multi-billion dollar world arms trade rose 16 per cent during the period 2010 to 2014 over the previous five years, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute added in its annual report.
The figures show that “the United States has taken a firm lead” with 31 per cent of global exports of conventional weapons, SIPRI said, adding that Russia is second with 27 per cent.
The next three arms exporters are far behind with about five per cent each, and China is only slightly ahead of fourth-ranked Germany and fifth-ranked France.

Three Asian countries accounted for more than two-thirds of Chinese exports, with Pakistan buying 41 per cent of the total, followed by Bangladesh and Myanmar. Beijing also had 18 client nations in Africa during the period.

Russia's top client was India — the world's leading arms importer — with 70 per cent of its purchases coming from Russia.

The United States had the most diverse clientele. South Korea, its top client, accounted for only nine per cent of total US business.

Among the top suppliers, China's sales were 143 per cent the figure from the previous five years. Ukraine and Russia also saw surges in exports, while German and French exports declined.
The data reflects the volume of arms deliveries, not the financial value of the deals, SIPRI notes.
Among importers, India was far ahead of second- and third-placed Saudi Arabia and China, purchasing some 15 per cent of the total volume compared with five per cent each for the next two. African arms imports shot up 45 per cent in the period, SIPRI found.

“Algeria was the largest arms importer in Africa, followed by Morocco, whose arms imports increased 11-fold,” it said.

“Cameroon and Nigeria received arms from several states in order to fulfil their urgent demand for weapons to fight against the militant Islamist group Boko Haram,” SIPRI added.

While the arms trade has been on the rise for the past decade, the volume remains about one-third below its post-war peak reached in the early 1980s.

And we would soon import more and I think soon there will be some massive orders for example most probably we would sign deal for 6 submarines SY-20 and also I think Z-10 in large numbers will be ordered than we are already testing MBT-3000 as well as other projects. I also hope we would soon start talks with China for 2 to 3 Type 96 Nuclear Submarines

China displaces Germany as world's third largest arms exporter - The Hindu

More than 68 pc of Chinese exports went to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar
China has raced ahead of Germany to become the world's third largest arms exporter, a Stockholm-based think tank said in a report on Monday.

Exports of major arms from the world's second largest economy grew 143 percent between 2010 and 2014. In the preceding five year period China had ranked ninth globally, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in a report.

"Asian countries continue to expand their military capabilities, with an emphasis on maritime assets," Siemon Wezeman, senior researcher with the SIPRI Arms and Military Expenditure Programme, said in a news release. More than 68 percent of Chinese exports went to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Beijing also sold major arms to 18 African states.

Analysts say Chinese-made equipment has found eager buyers among countries at odds with the United States and its allies. China was "extremely cautious and responsible" with its weapons exports, the country's Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

"We follow principles of helping the receiving country with its reasonable self-defence capabilities, not damaging global and regional peace and stability, and not interfering in the receiving country's internal politics," Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular briefing.

China's arms imports fell 42 percent between the years 2010 and 2014 compared with the prior five-year period, the report said. China does not release figures for its arms sales. China's military spending has seen double-digit growth for decades, and Beijing has poured funds into modernizing its armed forces as it takes a more assertive stance on territorial disputes in the region.

Experts say some Chinese-made equipment is comparable to U.S. or Russian-made counterparts, although precise information about its performance is scarce. China's neighbours have reacted with ambivalence over the country's development of modern equipment, including a second aircraft carrier, drones and stealth fighter jets.

We don't have to hire out our country's land and ports for dollars and own security kinda self reliance.

I think you made a mistake.... otherwise, you don't want to talk about everything or do you?
If not.... than just tell what better defence equipment you are buying ?

Do you think they will give us the type 96 nuclear submarines? I mean do you really think that there is a chance of this happening without western embargo's?
