Norwegian F-16 jets to have AAR-60 missile launch detection system

Royal Norwegian Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16 combat aircraft are to be protected from shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile attack under a new deal with Cassidian Electronics.

Announced on 27 September, the deal builds on the former EADS Defence & Security unit’s previous order to equip F-16s for the Royal Danish Air Force.

Under its new “multi-million euro” contract, the company will deliver more than 100 AAR-60 missile launch detection system (MILDS) sensors, which can detect incoming infrared-guided threats and cue countermeasures.

Cassidian has not confirmed the configuration of the MILDS installation selected by Oslo, but notes that the equipment can be fitted to a pylon, pod or directly onto a fighter’s fuselage.

Denmark’s F-16s are being equipped with AAR-60 sensors integrated within Terma-produced countermeasures dispensing pylons, along with signal processors. Each pylon uses three missile warners to provide spherical coverage. The system is “currently under implementation into operational use”, Cassidian says.

BTW if the deal is done, then when can we expect the first batch delivery and how many total PAf would buy ?

The price is released ? Or are you speculating ?

The price is not released and it certainly won't be $5 million. Its got to be more than that.

Really fishy. Members having a know how of PAF perhaps can make sense of it.

I think PAF will want to go ahead with the purchase. F-16 is still the top dog PAF has, and will have in future. They know how good it is, and since a lot of countries would be replacing their F-16s, its gonna rain F-16s soon.

Rain and thunder it shall be my friend... ;):D

. .
PAF has done it before, with Mirages when they bought mirages from whoever was scrapping them...Such behavior should change now as PAF can produce fighter jets of their own now...Mass production of Jf-17 will reduce cost and will help in future...Buying old F-16s when neighbors are about to get 5th generation stste of the art planes,is not wise...or is it?

Those jets are not at all meant for offense against Pakistan am sure.

. .
same kinda thing done by PAF for F-86 Saber, Mirages and now era starts for F-16. i already knew that :undecided:
From this act, it seems that PAF isn't willing to retire these birds before 2050.

alright ...you sneaky Norwegians :devil:.....nice move ....if ya looking for some serious $$$$$ you come to us .....;);)
