Typically you will allocate as % of GDP. For Sweden and Belgium it hovers around 1.2% . So compared to their economy its quite low. Even Iran according to the data spends only 1.8% of GDP on defence, which means they can really ramp up if required. Pak on the other hand has to deal with a lower overall GDP but a higher % of the same allocated for defence.

The better your economy, the more money available for defence.

what the hell are algeria, belgium and portugal doing spending so much money on defense? pakistan has real needs, whereas belgians and portugese just seem to want to burn some money to please the anglo-americans.

A large part of their Defense Budget is Salaries for the soldiers.

Pakistani soldiers are paid very low wages.

So even if our budget is less, we have more fighting capability.

Pakistan's Military Budget needs to be around 10-15 Billion. It is still too small.

Every country would wish for more but 10-15 bill can your economy handle it and that too when the international market is bad?

If you haven't noticed our threats have increased in last decades.... I do agree that education should be a priority but do consider the decreasing value of rupee and increasing threat to borders..... What we are going to do with education budget going up if we can't protect the school to be blow up (eg Swat and tribal regions).....

Increasing threat to border and decreasing value of rupee..that sounds like a crisis waiting to implode..should bring more attention on education and industrial development rather than arms purchasing..
