Pakistan: It's Membership in the So-called "Commonwealth"

Should Pakistan Nation Be a Part of the Commonwealth?

I've a little knowledge about this argument (just attended few lessons on this topic at high school a couple of years ago). In my opinion if this common wealth is not helping Pakistan but it's not either damaging Pakistan. If it's of no use, is only bcz of our wrong policies, our goverment.

Commonwealth countries share the same education systems and a list of other things, all this bring us a bit closer then what we immagine.

At last i will oppose this commonwealth only bcz it's the british queen which is the head of this organization and from some aspects it's a message to the countries that the colonial empire has left its traces inheritance to them. It's the only negative thing which comes in my mind. If someone have a good knowledge about this topic please illuminate us!

I am reading some your threads and your this comments is in line with your other comments and it shows how childish or brainwashed you are.
You guys are leaving on some one else money. If you will withdraw membership from UN, money will stop coming and temporary fuel shortage in Punjab will become permanent , even you best friend can't help you more..

So according to you we are living on someone else money? maybe india is maintaing Pakistan?:rofl:

Your are trying to dictating someone else on his comments but first correct your statements.:blah:

.
Should Pakistanis rally to demand withdrawal from the Commonwealth? I find it insulting to even be a part of it; everything it stands for and represents is purely an insult.

There are little to NO advantages of being part of it. Perhaps you agree, disagree, or are of no opinion on this matter. I'd like to get your honest views on the subject.

Note: Absolutely NO indians (non-Pakistanis) allowed to participiate in this poll. I have enabled viewers to see who votes for which option, in the interests of ensuring that only Pakistanis vote here. With that said, be frank and candid in your feedback. This is only the internet; not the local boxing ring.

Sorry I voted before reading your instructions....

can is say something? :undecided:

if pakistan wants it can pull off but it will not help pakistan anyway. UK is helping pakistan many ways. like India and others there is no problem to be in commonwealth.

Its a difficult vote, need time to think.

hmph hard one, i agree what commonwealth stands for would be insulting to any country that has a rich history. Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc are related with the Brits in one way or another so for them it is perfectly normal to be under the Queen but we have our own proud history so yeah il agree on that part

BUT, as far as i know, being a member of the Commonwealth gives you monetary advantages apparently, no way to back this up though. Still my vote is NO, we shouldnt be.

Commonwealth provides annual scholarships for graduate studies to several students. They go to top universities in Canada, UK and Australia. Don't see whats so bad about that.

From that point of view CW makes sense. However if you think about it in this way that when we become part of CW we are accepting that the British Monarch is our superior. This is Elizebeths official title

"Queen of [Realm] and her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth"

This is a monarchy that did all it could to ashame our people, destroyed our monarchies(essentially our history i.e Mughals) and yet here we are still accepting that same monarchy as our superior despite becoming "independent". In the end it all depends from what point of view you want to see the CW. I as history fanatic would hence be against CW membership. As realists others might disagree. Depends on the individual :)

the tax collection rate in Pakistan is a paltry 10% (i.e. 1 in 10 Pakistanis pay their taxes)

gradually increase collection rate to even 25-35% and govt. could be the one issuing grants/scholarships

Pakistan doesnt need CW in this regard, if there was will to adopt such basic measures

again, merely my view.

we have nothing to do with a good number of countries in the list, save for the fact that we are former britisher colonies.

CW is a joke, and should be dissolved....at very least, Pakistan leadership should withdraw, physically remove our flag, and give them the middle finger. We need a bold leader who would do such moves

and yes -- i do agree we have more important issues to worry about. But this is an issue of national honour, and it shouldnt be put aside on back-burner

New Delhi The camaraderie on display when Pakistan’s 76-member contingent entered Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the Games opening ceremony seems to have been shortlived. “Pakistan hai hai’ and ‘Pakistan murdabad’ slogans and booing spectators returned to the stands for the two India-Pakistan matches in the last two days.

The boxing match between Suranjoy Singh and Pakistan’s Haroon Iqbal at the Talkatora Indoor stadium on Monday began with loud cheer for the Indian boxer and slogans like ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and ‘Vande Matram’, but the moment Iqbal entered the boxing ring, there were loud slogans against Pakistan from the stands, including the ones of the Indian Boxing Federation. Singh breezed into the finals by winning the bout convincingly with a 9-3 score.

“This is to bring down the guy’s morale. Well, none of us should do it, considering that we gave them such warm welcome, but when everybody starts shouting things like these, the herd mentality sets in,” said a Boxing Federation official who did not want to be named. After a few minutes of displeasure, the crowd reverted to cheering for India after some members of the foreign media advised against doing so by signalling and telling everybody to calm down.

The atmosphere at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium on Sunday may have been electric with India fans going into a frenzy, but even here the boos for the neighbouring country were loud and clear. Even the Pakistani National Anthem wasn’t received very well.

“India-Pakistan matches are always a combination of loud cheer and anti-Pakistan slogans when they happen in India. But the slogans in the boxing match were too loud,” said Ravish Khanna, a spectator, who watched the game with his brother. “With the world watching, we need to give out a better message to the world through sports which goes beyond politics now,” said Harpreet Singh.
