“Having said that, the performance of the Eagle has turned out to be surprisingly good, which takes some sting out of the initial criticism,” he said.

Tufail says an absence of news of the fourth aircraft being delivered may mean it is undergoing installation of Link 16 datalink equipment to enable it to communicate with all of the PAF’s aircraft, particularly its F-16s, and not just the JF-17 Thunders.

We may be hilarious NOT idiot like you :).

you need to read the entire news before commenting.

It is better to show as if it was based on tossing coins ;) playing low is better than playing all cards at a time

yeah right, NOT idiot like us who test the systems for years before buying them. Of course you may want to 'play loww' coz some of your key systems look more like casino gambles. Very intelligent. :enjoy:

Given the financial constraints of PAF at that time Eagle was one of the best planes they could have bought and according to the article is performance is also very good so kudos!
Plus they can always upgrade to new AWACS which the Chinese have developed once the economy bounces back!

Better than more than a decade of negotiation and negotiation and then some...
We call it DUUEEE DILLIGENCE brother. I can assure you that within 25 years from nego start we usually manage to close the deal. That's not easy.

Takes the sting out of the acquisition but whatever.

I think this looks more like Musharraf Criticism Exercise then actual Analysis. Their was an Article on this Allegation on Musharraf by non other then Ansar Abbasi and he is also well known for Maligning Musharraf's Image for so long.

According to the website, former Air Commodore Kaiser said that the Pakistani military bought the four Chinese AEW&C planes reluctantly as it was a transaction done “under pressure of [then President] Gen. Musharraf, as a political expedient [Chinese appeasement], and not because of any reasons of technical superiority.”

Indians can conquer the world if they were able to read and understand english....PAF was pressurized by Musharaf you 10 jamat fail

If pakistan is not happy, we can sell them our Tejas.
As soon as you guys are able to get your own air force to start buying and flying them beyond half a squadron.. sure.. the Tejas is a nice jet.

Apparently they dont need to; according to Indian government officials today India had conquered the world during the years of the Mahabharta and anything before that and so the world does in essence belong to them as indicated within the logs of the Starship Vimana that was lost on its expedition to Alpha Centuari by the dwellers of then Bharat.

That is true, you test em and test em.. and test em.. its like someone stalking a pretty girl on facebook for 30 years before finally deciding to message her after she looks like the rear end of a horse... all the while telling themselves "She was hot, of that I am now sure.. I think I shall have her".

Whether you consider something a gamble or not, this was in reality, a very good decision. IMO, Pakistan sort of rectified their inability to make a decision on Hawkeye in the 80's when the US offered it. The Hawkeye is much advanced now, but I'd imagine with newer processors and technologies, this radar has to be better than the 80's Hawkeye. So a decision too late, but a decision much needed.

Next, due to Pakistan's leverage against the Chinese, they can add additional capability to this AEW system at will and for a quarter of the cost they'd pay to Saab or to anyone else in the West. A few years from now, they can even produce these Radars themselves. That's the beauty of it. Unlike India, Pakistan doesn't have ambitions to be a "soup-o-powa", their main and only air threat and foe is India. So having the ability to home manufacture low cost AEW units and do upgrades as you please at a fraction of the cost, is probably the best AEW option. Plus, add numbers to it. The reality of the fact is, 4 or 6 of these platforms in the air can see 250 miles inside majority of India around the borders, but still flying 30 miles inside Pakistani airspace. THAT right there, is a LOT of capability. If you can track your enemy the second they get air-born, you have a range of options to counter the incoming threat, before the threat even knowing about how they are about to be countered.

AWAC is a ‘Force Multiplier’ aircraft and Musharraf’s decision to go for the Chinese AWACs has proved to a good one.

I cast no aspersions on the competence of Air Cmdr. Tufail, but I don’t see the point he is trying to make here. Is he trying to say that Musharraf made a mistake or could have done better?

I would have put the same as “Chinese AWACs may not have been PAF’s preferred choice but the decision turned out to be a good one.”

However, in Pakistan we love to find faults in the decisions made by the previous governments, whether good or bad.

Having two different AWACS is stupid. Simplicity is the way to go.
