3 trillion is way too high and even conservative estimates say only about half of the economy is underground

Although, due to the immense popularity Imran Khan has, he will be very useful with getting that economy documented and convincing people to pay taxes, as they have a lot of trust in him. And during that time they can make a system to monitor people's tax payments and implement laws if not paid


That was purely one aspect of the negative social culture I mentioned that needs to be worked on, at the end of the day it's part of human nature so will take time to mend.

But overall it also has a lot of differing aspects and ideals which are different to India's and a positive for it.

Few days ago, i was following a debate on Pak economy, where they gave a brief calculation if Pakistan's economy is 383 billion by govt figure but people on the ground claim figure is 400 billion then the underground parallel economy is always 3 times to 4 times higher in number. Imagine do you have any correct record of Gold import and sales in Pakistan? no ..its just one example.

percentage is my calculation, but a commentator who worked in Karachi stock market claimed 3 to 4 trillion. Even if 1. trillion, imagine the tax receipts of FBR .... its almost .05 percent ?

For reference that's the same size as India's economy with a population of over 1 billion, so I heavily doubt it.

But for what it's worth I hope this is somehow true and we can get this documented, IK could be instrumental in this.

Nobody knows the true size of Pakistan's economy. It is most likely double that of "official figures". It could be anywhere from 600 billion USD to 750 billion USD.

Nigeria rebased their economy in 2014.
