ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan looks forward to a great level of cooperation with Japan in trade, investment, infrastructure and energy sectors and called for a start of a bilateral free trade agreement talks.

Prime Minister Sharif, talking to Japan’s Ambassador Takashi Kurai, invited Japanese companies to invest in Pakistan to strengthen industrial sector and produce value-added goods. “Pakistan regards Japan as a close friend and a reliable economic partner,” he said.

Minister hoped that Japan would review Pakistan’s inclusion in travel advisory list as the law and order situation has been improved. He said Japan may consider a three to four year exception for Pakistani textiles under its temporary tariff measures to bring Pakistan at par with its competitors which enjoy free access to Japanese market. Kurai appreciated Pakistan’s economic growth. “Pakistan’s perception particularly in Japan has changed to a business friendly-country,” he said.

Would be nice if Japan can come into picture with CPEC initiative , as some of the goods could travel across rail from China , much faster and reach Middle east faster.

I think CHINA -Japan are already working on TPP economic forum so I don't see why it would be difficult, and recently Japan / Russia made some progress to resolve some issues with Russia all positive initiatives

Certainly the China / Japan angle would certainly would have to be resolved from Japan side to see economic benefit and Japan has to realize China has a peaceful regional country and sort out WW2 issues with both China and Russia

Only then we can truely benefit Asia as whole , otheriwse we will keep going circles

But General Industrial zones in Pakistan are open to all investors

Pakistan generally does offers incentive to many Japanese companies (Already common brand name in Pakistan)

• Panasonic/National
• Toyota
• Suzuki
• Honda
• Toshiba
  
• Yamaha etc
• Not to mention cameras etc

All common brand name

Only matter of time before Japan will realize the economic benefits of better ties with Russia (attaining Oil products, and selling own product to it) and China (Tourism exchange) and of course Pakistan (Tourism / Edible products - We already do import certain brands from Japan )

From economic prespective and Logistical point of view , Japanese goods can travel faster from rail route across china to Russia or thru Pakistan into Europe (Turkey). And alternative route into Africa from Saudia/Egypt

Many Japanese companies are effectively only Japanese brands with full scale production facilities in China and as such should not have issue in co op on CPEC..
