Pakistan Interested in Russian Air Defense Systems, Tanks
Pakistan Armed Forces have shown keen interest in Russia air defense systems and tanks.
Major General Naveed Ahmed, Director General of Defense Procurement Pakistan, was speaking with Sputnik on Tuesday. According to him, Pakistan Armed Forces have a heightened interest in Russian air defense systems, tanks, arms and ammunition. Ahmed, leading the Pakistan delegation on the Army-2016 military expo, said,
Our army services are [showing] keen interest in different Russian products. We are looking for the air platform, for any sorts of helicopters; for the army we are looking for tanks, we are looking for anti-tank weapon system and more importantly we are looking for the air defense system.
Army-2016 military expo will continue from September 6 to September 11 in Kubinka, Moscow. It aims to bring together representatives from the Russian defense industry, research institutes, universities, as well as foreign companies. Some 800 Russian and foreign participants are expected to mount exhibitions (close to 7,000) throughout the week.
On Monday, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Mr. Qazi Kahlilullah told that Minister of Defense Production of Pakistan Rana Tanveer Hussain will be visiting the forum as well. The ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s intention of whipping up a deal on Russian air defense systems. He stated that Pakistan was interested in expanding its military and technical cooperation with Russia. Apart from the Russia air defense systems, Pakistan has shown a keen interest in Russia tanks, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, helicopters and aircrafts.
