MOSCOW - Pakistan and Russia are in talks on sales of helicopters, air defence systems and modernised tanks, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told Sputnik on Wednesday.

Pakistan is eyeing to modernise its Air Force, Asif said on the sidelines of the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security.

"We are in touch with Russia on different types of weapons such as helicopters.
We are even considering the Russian air defence system and advanced tanks.
We are also exploring possibility to update and modernise our Air Force," Asif said.

According to Asif, Pakistan is seeking to expand its cooperation with Russia in different spheres, including regional security and counter-terrorism.

"We are looking forward to expanding our cooperation with Russia in all facets of our relationship but mostly we are looking forward to increasing our defence cooperation.
We also look forward to working closely on regional peace and in the fight against terrorism," the minister added.

Military ties between the two countries date back to the 1960s, when Pakistan imported defence equipment from the Soviet Union.
In November 2014, Russia and Pakistan signed a deal on cooperation between their defence ministries.

The agreement was followed by a contract for the sale of four Mi-35M transport and attack helicopters to Pakistan, signed in August 2015.

Pak does alot of stuff without others knowing it.It was cold war in which you bragged about each and every milestone you made India still does that whereas Pakistan keeps stuff to itself.

Empty Words money simply isn't there to do purchase any o the stuff except few transport helos which also seem to be taking a long time for just 4 choppers id say you guys should put that money in making domestic industrial base if you guys can co make JF17 then simple transport helos shouldn't be a problem my college mates made a dang good chopper as their project for final year for less than 300000 dollars so pakistan can pull it off too.

It's not about Potential or Money . it's about will.

Plus, 4 chopper's are to evaluate the supply line and acquisition process as well as to Observe the Reaction of some "other" countries.. AT the end, we will get what we want to .. so nothing to worry about that.

Element of surprise achieved here. We usually do not brag about many things. There are lot of stuff we make domestically esp back end systems but usually do not bring them in lime light but only if we want to export them or send a msg to someone.

I'm sure Pakistan will buy everything from Russia...including S-400, t-14 Armata, Su-35, PAK-FA, Mi-28, Ka-52,
also buy several nuclear submarines, warships, rockets, missiles and what not.

Why then, I wonder, Putin says there's "not much substance" in the trip? I mean, we are looking at deals worth hundreds of billions here and Russia would possibly give everything for free like US & China?

This is truly very intriguing.

There is just a thaw in relations between the both and this so called refusal was very much in line with the decades old bad relations. This was just a PTT from us and it really took quite long for Russians to say No and this is not the end of the world. But still they had lifted ban on almost everything available for export for us and they are still financing the pipeline etc. So how do U see that?

You are not a Pakistani and you are nobody but a person sitting somewhere behind a computer so I don't have to show you jack. If you are so intrested then come to Parliament of Pakistan and I will show you the money. Another option is why don't India start something and you will find out on battlefield wether we had the money to buy the platforms to give you a bloody nose.
