What's new

Pakistan in Australia 2009-2010

.
First over of the day:

45.4 Johnson to Umar Akmal, OUT, caught behind! forward to a fullish ball outside off, he got an outside edge which Haddin dived forward to collect, there's a big shout but the batsman stands his ground and the umpires confer. The question is whether Haddin took it cleanly, after some delay examining several replays, the umpires decide he did.

Umar Akmal c †Haddin b Johnson 27 (37b 5x4 0x6) SR: 72.97
Misbah-ul-Haq is the new batsman

45.5 Johnson to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, caught behind! gets a touch on a good length delivery pitched outside off, the batsman has just pushing tentatively forward, manages a little edge which provides the keeper with a simple catch. Mitchell Johnson is on a hattrick.

Misbah-ul-Haq c †Haddin b Johnson 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Kamran Akmal survives the Hat trick!

.
A few overs later:

61.2 Hauritz to Kamran Akmal, OUT, lovely flighted delivery, luring Akmal to use his feet and he drives and gets beaten completely, the ball goes straight on and Haddin collects the ball and gets rid of the stumps. Akmal a long way out of the crease, can only watch Haddin remove the stumps.

Kamran Akmal st †Haddin b Hauritz 30 (48b 4x4 1x6) SR: 62.50

Aamer is the new batsman.

61.3 Hauritz to Mohammad Aamer, OUT, another wonderful delivery, two in two for Hauritz, he tosses it up and Aamer pushes forward and extra bounce, the ball takes the glove and pops up to Katich at short leg and now Hauritz is on a hat-trick.

Mohammad Aamer c Katich b Hauritz 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Well deserved win for Australia, and a much deserved loss for Pakistan.

The batting collapses are no longer spectacular, they've become routine, which is a shame. The bowlers did all they could, especially in the second Aussie inning, but with little help from fielders and no help from the batsmen, there is only so much bowling heroics can do. The holes in batting couldn't be more glaring, and it's all down to confidence. For example, Salman Butt would generally eat the types of deliveries he got out to, straight ones on middle-and-leg; he is a terrific leg-side player (as most left-handed batsmen are), and yet he missed these deliveries completely trying to flick off the pads. Another example of mental weakness is the way we lost two wickets in the very first over of the day. The bowling by Johnson was outstanding, no doubt, but at least Umar Akmal had no excuse for playing the shot that he did. The one to Misbah was a lot closer to the wicket, so it makes sense to try and defend it, but the one to Umar should have been left alone in the first over of the day.

Credit to Yousuf for hanging in there for the second inning, and for amazing pressure in the field after Lunch yesterday (the only time the Aussie team looked visibly concerned), but he got out-captained by Ponting with two terrific declarations - had Australia lost, it would have been termed overconfidence, but they won handsomely, so Ponting is vindicated. All in all, like I said, much deserved loss for Pakistan. Forget bowling coaches, what we need is a Drill Sargent to ride the arses of our batsmen and instil the fear of God into their hearts.

That said, Man of the Match was a rip-off. They gave it to the Aussie golden-boy because he had crowd support, not on merit. It's not everyday that a single bowler takes the wicket of Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, North and Haddin; all five specialist batsmen forming one of the most formidable middle-orders in all of Cricket. Yet, the MoM award goes to a guy who looked less than impressive and controlled in his maiden century. On another day, in another country, this award would have gone to Aamer hands down.

I really hope Younis Khan returns to give us the formidable Yousuf-Younis combo, and I also think it's time for us to try an alternative to Misbah-ul-Haq and Imran Farhat, possibly by giving Malik another chance at opening the innings and bringing in Fawad Alam. There would no no excuse to keep playing Abdur Rauf, Gul and/or Kaneria must return. I'll try to post my views in more detail before the next Test begins.

Pathetic display of play by Pakistan, hope to see them improve in next test. It takes time for teams to adjust.

Ok all sit and sulk in silence..

But that will not help anyone.

As I may have said before, but I can not be bothered to find the post, your team needs practice against good teams. It means doing lots of national tours and getting that practice.

But I suppose you might manage to win next test..

SYDNEY: Pakistan T20 skipper Shahid Afridi Thursday said that he would not turn down any opportunity for the return to Test cricket.

After team’s defeat to Australia in the first Test, Pakistan captain Muhammad Yousuf said that Twenty 20 cricket was killing country’s cricket.

However, T20 captain Afridi told Geo that there were few plays in the Test team who perform better in ODIs and Twenty 20 matches.

He suggested Pakistan should hunt new talent for Test matches so that players like Muhammad Yousuf and Younis Khan could be inducted into the team.

Afridi was of the view that T20 cricket does not make much difference in the cricket.

“I will be available to return to Test cricket if the national team needed my services,” said Afridi.

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called back Fawad Alam and Abdul Rauf from Australia with a view to reduce the number of national players present there.

On the other hand, it is being expected that former captain Younus Khan may to depart for Australia. The present number of team members in Australia is 17.

Spokesman of PCB has said that the Board has directed the team management to immediately send Abdul Rauf and Fawad Alam home.

He said the National Selection Committee will make its decision of sending the substitute players after assessing the performance of the players in the second test.
