Because he at least had a single eye on the average man and his problems. Zia didnt give a crap.

I m not a Zia fan but with any leader ruling then ,Soviet Union's might just a few Kilometers from Pakistan Border with clear intentions beyond Afghanistan , It would make him sleepless . While Zia could have done alot better odds were clearly against him and he had to resort to using Gorillas in Afghanistan to fight Soviets . His concern was both the eastern and western flanks of Pak could turn into a war zone . He had to keep Indian troops at bay on the east by keeping strong presence of PAK troops while he fought Soviets with Afghan militia . We owe our existance to Afghanistan 's brave souls . Thanks Mujahiddin . Those who were martyred may their sould rest in Peace ..amen

Is it just me or Pakistan from the 60's looks more classy than today?

In 60's Pakistan gave the looks of a bonanza country with a tremendous tendency to reach new limits, but now Pakistan is setting the benchmark of a country in economic, political & social turmoil..... Sad, sad, sad........

We had more than 50 years to turn ourselves into a developed and modern country. Not saying that we're not developed right now, of course there's a lot we achieved in the past 50 years but we never really grew to our full potential. Regional instability and education has been a major setback for Pakistan.

Never say never eh? Lets hope we can still turn things around.

Pakistan was highly regarded by many in those days, it was the least corrupt and one of the fastest progressing nations in Asia.

Much praise and admiration was directed our way, my Uncle tells me that when he went to study abroad in those days, Pakistani were highly regarded as they hailed from a mysterious place and our cultural habits were charming to others. This certainly helped with the ladies, they found us to be mysterious, cultured and dashing.

Sadly it's a different story now. But things can still improve and we can achieve what we have the potential for, we just need to revert back to our old laws and mindset.

A promotional video only shows the good stuff, but things were better then in West Pakistan.

There are so many beautiful places in Pakistan that can literally become tourist heaven but unfortunately our people are not utilizing the potential.
