Pakistan improving sanitation way faster than India: Study

.
Another reason for the improvement is, the trend of housing societies is spreading very fast. There is a new housing society after every half a mile :). And the investors / owners of societies scoring points by advertisisng, that there are 10 or 20 water filter plants in the society. So people are now moving to such housing societies for the better access to schools, colleges, markets, security and clean water.

According to PDF only India had a sanitation problem. Although it's a good news keep up the good work to both countries.

who cares?toilet is a missionary western concept ,taking a holy dump outside is in our culture

It's true. Before the British came, everyone in India defecating. The untouchables come and clean it up.

As elders say, to cure a problem first we have to acknowledge it and then give priority to it.

Current gov't has already done it and is only matter of years when India will be among top in most indicators.

China was where India is today a decade back. With proper policies and growing GDP there's no reason why it can't happen.

Are you saying that most Chinese were defecating like Indians 10 years ago?

huge Indian population can be one of the factors. anyway 92 is a bit uncomfortable number ? I dont know how things are working in India but here in Pakistan or at least I know in KPK a huge UNICEF drive in collaboration with KPK government has improved sanitation to a large scale also USAID is helping out in few areas

Pretty lame excuse... This problem could have been solved a long time ago if it was a priority for people... but they care more for things like religion :hitwall:

It's all about leadership. If Modi cannot force his supporters to stop focusing on religion, than the focus of India would be on religious issues instead of social economic issues. Modi will fail just like congress except in a different way.

China has pollution issues which India does not have, so I guess it evens out the field. And should you really be gloating, really? If we talk about medical profile of both countries you will be sulking for a week.
Another lame excuse...Soon many Indian cities will beat china in pollution, population race as well....

Better to acknowledge our weakness and work on them..Sanitation is big problem in India along with cleanliness. I have seen even so called educated, rich Indians dont keep their city clean....They are best to give lectures to others but when it comes to self realization they have their own excuses and rules dont apply on them.

Firstly I must acknowledge Pakistan is way behind from providing clean water to every citizen.

There is a kind of race that started about 5 years ago among politicians and corporate tycoons to provide clean water to improve their image. More and more, bigger and better water filtration plants are coming up just about everywhere with a huge board besides who granted it for free. It has become like a media campaign. Now water filtration plants are not really that expensive in Pakistan and it makes for huge publicity.

There are helping factors to that. Firstly population in Pakistan appreciates clean water for some reason. There maybe religious reasons to it but it is something they will be obliged by. Mushshraf started to import and then attracted quite a few water purification brands into establishing plants here in Pakistan. These plants are manufactured or atleast can be supported locally. There is fierce competition for market share means low prices.

Then canal system of Pakistan is one of a kind. Probably largest in the world. So fresh water is easy to get from a canal to a plant which themselves are cheaper. Next blessing came in the form of Power outages. Yes, I mean it. As people turned to alternate sources to power their houses. Markets were flooded with solar panels with ever dropping prices. With solar panels, politicians could now stick in a small water purification plant with solar panels on top in a far flung village with a huge board with his picture reminding constantly who to vote next election. Who cares? At least there is clean water. Looking at the popularity Punjab government and Balochistan government with help of NGOs started giving solar powered filtration plants free or at nominal rates through their MPs basically to boost their political image.

As I said, we are way far from ideal but people's desire for clean water and politician's / business tycoon's desire to gain popularity has really helped here.

Let me supply you dirty water for a day, and i am sure you will appreciate clean water as well. Humans deserve this basic necessity of life. Nothing special about Pakistan, but yet, we have access to fresh water resources but so does India. Toilets and pipelines and pumps don't build themselves, someone has to do it.
Our key is that our population is concentrated in a smaller area so we can initiate programs with a faster response time. This has been happening since 1947. Not sure about India, but yea, this ranking is pretty pathetic.

Yes you are absolutely right. I can imagine you sitting on a dump of rubbish and posting rubbish. Have a good day.

There is a reason why Pakistan is known as the Land of the Pure. Never understood why India and the Indian people are so dirty.

Indians may not realise but in Pakistani society/culture, the concept of living with Indians/Hindus is absolutely abhorrent.

.
Hopefully 'Swach Bharat' scheme changes things in India

.
Ha ha .There you goes the itching of NGOs when we completely locked up from here. You can expect same things in future.

Of Course we have sanitation problem but when you blindly reduce the so called rank .Come on

Robyn Lawley is fat and ugly.

. .
That's something good.....
we should compete on such things...
healthy competition I would say ...

.
Economic development will also have a similar impact on the country.

Pakistan will look a cleaner more developed country before India does despite bank balance.
