Pakistan ignores hostile rhetoric coming from Kabul

So, who can help us understand why it is important or right, that Pakistan ignore hostile statements coming from Afghan govt officials?

Well, can you think of any dividend from adopting hostile rhetoric towards Afghanistan? (other than chest beating)

In private meeting, Pakistan should pursue her interests ruthlessly

by the same token it is not clear what the Afghans hope to gain vis-a-vis Pakistan by adopting such acrimonious rhetoric - unless they have local political needs like focusing the Afghan street's anger on Pakistan, which still does not make a lot of sense: as the higher they climb this pole the hard it will be to come down from it.

Why will it be hard to climb down? Who will make it hard? Look, when dealing with the Afghan, you must be perceived as having following through, that is to say, Afghans must perceive you as someone or something, that can bring to bear influence on them - Afghans measure Pakistan by what Pakistan can do to them personally, and they are persuaded that they can say and do anything their almost unlimited hatred of Pakistan can enable them to do ---- So the message they have from Pakistan is that Pakistan are a bunch of hapless, confused and ultimately powerless entity that the Afghan can help bury -- By continuing to ignore hostile rhetoric, Pakistan ensure that such rhetoric will be followed by even more hostile action by the Afghan.

With Afghans and really as a matter of policy, Reward friends, Punish Enemies - and this Afghan regime is no friend.

No one but those in charge can.

Personally, I think that reacting to those hostile statements will only backfire on Pakistan. Restraint is needed until the Afghans actually try something.

Because Pakistan can afford to ignore a " Toothless and Fangless " Afghanistan which is no threat to Pakistan.

As the NATO Forces exit in 2014, Afghans are going to have an internal tussle to fill in the vacuum.

Pakistan should just sit back and enjoy the Show. :pop:

Hardly, even India's government tends to be careful when it comes to antagonizing Pakistan, and likewise so does Pakistan when it comes to India. Karzai and his speech writers are a special type of crazy.

Well I think at the very least, if Pakistan resorts to hostile rhetoric, it will increase the risk that the Afghan street will rally behind their leadership - which will grant the Afghan leadership more room for maneuver vis-a-vis pakistan.

Pakistani leadership should extract their pound of flesh in private conversations and use every lever available to them - such as the Afghan refugees, access to ports etc.
