Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that Malala Yousafzai’s family will be under guard when they return to Pakistan after her treatment and the government will pay for it.
In an interview with CNN in London, Malik said that the teenage activist had been offered security thrice before her shooting, but her father had refused.
He said that she would be given security when she returns to Pakistan. Malik said that this will require a cordon of female officers to surround Malala and one of male officers to surround the female contingent.
“I assure to the world community that when she goes back, we do have the ability to protect her.”
The interior minister also said that Malala and her parents can stay in the UK for as long as needed, “until she is fully rehabilitated”.
Police looking for 3 suspects
Malik said that police in Pakistan was searching for three suspects believed to be involved in Malala’s shooting.
He said that the suspects were two youths who were involved in the shooting and a man who is believed to have driven them to the scene. He said the two were brought to Swat by a man identified as 23-year-old Ataullah Khan, who is the primary suspect.
The interior minister said one of the youths had distracted the driver of the vehicle Malala was travelling in, while the other had asked a bystander to identify her.
“Obviously they had done their homework. They had seen the vehicle of Malala going up and down, and accordingly they acted on that.”
Police have said that they are tracking down Khan, who was a student of a master’s degree in chemistry. He had studied for his Bachelor of Science degree in physics at Jahanzeb College in Swat.
Malik also rejected calls from some to bring in the army to bear on the militants, stating that a military solution was not the solution.
He said that Malala was the pride of Pakistan and that “we would love her to come back”.

This asshole couldn't even protect Benazir.

I rather trust a one eyed kid with a slingshot than Rehman Malik for protection.

What? Malik is still in government?

seems like a case of closing the barn door after the horse has bolted.

i wonder what it is that the GOP is waiting for to crack down on the talliban for . these guys are destroying Pakistan social fabric.

Pakistan has the ability no doubt but the problem is it fails again and again to deliever.
Good news is that the girl is recovering fast, but the damage has been done by the Talibs they wanted to spread strong message whoever will go against them would face the danger for his or her live and those religious goons succeeded.
Let's say pak government this time succeed in providing her safety, but what about other hundred or thousand of malala's who on daily basis under threat by religious mullahs and talibs.
Giving protection will not change the situation in pakistan you need change which a girl like malala may only be able to provide you.

A state has the ability to protect a 14 year old girl? Sorry to say the statement itself depicts weakness.

Rohna Dohna band karoo or else it is making it seem like there was a plan to use her......
People get killed in those drone strikes. Why can't Rehman Malik say anything about protecting them? :hitwall:

No the statement was most probably issued for legal reasons...
European law says that if a person from outside EU has well founded reason of persecution of threat to life, they can ask the host European country for Protection while refusing to return to their country of Origin..
But since Pakistan does want Malala back for many reasons, face saving to top most..
The government may have felt the need to issue this statement.
So that her or her family do hot ask UK for humanitarian protection..

That's a good thing, benazir was no hero. Media and PPP just portrays her as one, sahe was every bit as corrupt as her hubby, she killed her brother and sister, was disowned by her mother, what happened to her was only coming

The best thing the Malala familly and the girl herself can do is claim asylum in some European country-they are not going to be safe in Pakistan despite such assurances. If ex PMs are assainted if high members of government are killed if they are even killed by their own BGs and these murderers are showered with rose petals in gestures of support then can you really trust your security to the Pakistani state??/

They can apply but after this assurance by GOP they will be refused and returned to Pakistan.
