Pakistan has become security state, says interior minister

You mean IF it ever happens, only THEN you would be proven correct? Sounds like a 50-50 chance. Also I don’t believe social development is suffering or being ignored because of resources diverted to security. But that is a different debate altogether.

As an exercise, it would be prudent to look up the numbers for social needs and the resources allocated to them compared to the accumulated and future needs, and compare them to those for defense and security if you wish to discuss this any further. And those will be the real internal dangers to Pakistan, so it is not really a separate debate. Pakistan must change from a security state if it is to meet the ever increasing social needs of its population. IF it cannot change, then my argument holds.

I stand by my statements.

As an exercise, please read Defence expenditure vs Social development expenditure. That is a lot of money we are talking about which we don’t see being spent. Where does the rest go. If for sake of argument i accept that security is draining resources, what about the rest of our resources? Do they not get the same scrutiny? This security expenditure myth is only propagated to deflect from the ineptitude of subsequent governments in solving the common mans issues. It has more than enough resources to address these. It lacks the will .

Pakistan can only change from a security state to a welfare one if it were located differently, like say.. near Malaysia. Our location dictates a sound security policy because we face threats from every direction. Whether we can be both a security state and a welfare state at the same time is what is yet to be seen.

Well, let's see whether PMIK can deliver on his promise of the Riasat-e-Madina welfare state while also keeping this present security state intact. I can only wish him the best of luck.

Maybe he will soon announce a large oil and gas discovery, or similar hugely opportune good news he has promised the nation, and there will be enough resources for both. Or maybe he will decide on another IMF bailout and quam kau mazeed qurbaniyan deney hongee, as always.

What do you think is more likely to happen?

Whether they can deliver or not is not remotely the debate. Whether this nation can rise and get its rights is more pertinent. Even being a follower of IK, i don’t believe in magical solutions to Pakistan’s historic problems. I wish him luck but luck alone cannot change anything. IK must deliver on his promises or he will lose the millions that actually did vote for him.

As for the oil and gas announcement, i am skeptical as to the nature and the extraction of these. Even though i trust IK to be an honest person if nothing else, this said discovery is useless without wide ranging reforms, especially the bureaucracy. As i said, I don’t believe in fairy tales.

What i think would happen is painful reforms , that might only start to show promise in a good 5-10 years. That too if we can make it that far.

That is why I said above, I am perfectly content to wait and watch what he is able to achieve. What's the rush?

Imran Khan went to Iran to create an understanding, find security solutions and fix diplomatic relations and here interior minister is saying "Iran should be dealt against very seriously."

What. Is he crazy?

crazy are those who think Iran can be Pakistan's friend, and ISIS is a Muslim fundamentalist group.

Good Cop bad Cop. It's best strategy in current circumstances of world. We will persuade our national interests only.

Now pakistanis should understand this. And should not be in a camp of KSA or Iran but only Pakistan.

No one is invading KSA or Iran but Pakistan can be wedged of war. So
Pakistanis should stop behaving like idiots & bumpkin.

It's frustrating why do we have bunch of fool Pakistanis on social media.

Shah's regime was very supportive, the mullahs currently see us with suspicion due to close ties with Saudis.

IK wants to turn Pakistan into a welfare state. While stuffing up his cabinet with people, who made this a Seccurity State. Only positive news is that those people now openly admit so.

As always, it is not what PMIK says that is important, but what he actually does. The results show it all.

Yes. Lets wait for another couple of years at least to see real impact.
