Here is the quistion about Pakistan' Ability to manufacture Night Vision defense equipment. And which industry is working in this field. Which can give soldiers the ability to see at night. Is there any article about this. And also what about thermal imaging. what is Pakistan is doing in this field. :pakistan:

In 1995 before my retirement I was a DG ( Defense Production Division )
Institute of Optronics was under my command .
night vision goggles were locally built variant of the standard US Army AN/PVS-5A night vision goggle system for general purpose work in the visible and infra-red spectral regions (up to 0.86 µm) including vehicle driving. The goggles incorporate two second-generation, 18 mm, micro-channel, wafer type, image intensifier tubes which allow the user to view at ranges from 250 mm up to infinity. A self-contained infra-red illuminator source is used for map- reading and equipment maintenance.nstitute of Optronics
Ministry of Defence, Chaklala-Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Institute of Optronics (IOP) has established state-of-the-art military specifications production and testing facilities of night vision devices, based on Image Intensifier Tubes. The Night Vision Systems, without turning the night into day, vastly improve the ability of the Armed Forces to undertake a number of vital functions related to force effectiveness. Command and control, surveillance, movements both tactical and logistical and accuracy of firepower are some of the areas of activities in which the Night Vision Devices are playing a formidable and vital role.

Institute of Optronics is playing a key role in this field and has established Military Specifications production and testing facilities of following night vision devices, based on second generation Image Intensifier Tubes:

# Individual Served Night Vision Weapon Sight (Equivalent to AN / PVS - 4A)
# Crew Served Night Vision Weapon Sight (Equivalent to AN / TVS - 5A)
# High Performance Night Vision Goggles (Equivalent to AN / PVS - 5C)
# High Performance Night Vision Binoculars (Equivalent to NVB - 4A and NVB - 5A)
# Driver’s Night Vision Periscope (DNVP - 1A)
# Aviator’s Night Vision Goggle

An indigenization programme to progressively develop and manufacture components in Pakistan for night vision systems is being vigorously pursued. The future plans of this institute include the establishment of facilities for night vision devices based on Thermal Imaging Techniques for all types of armoured vehicles and helicopters.

Very Good, I think that Pakistan can't make night googles. But here IOP is working well. Thanks for this.

Well DG Sahib
can u explain a news item few months back about stern check on equipment by us on western fronts?? If I am not wrong it was said that equipments are taken back every 3 months for inventory checking and these included night vision googles

Why dont we use our owns?

ab kissi ka chashma lagan achi baat tu nahi na ?? or was it that we want to see everyone from an american eye(maybe night vison google as it may supperss our muslim brotherhood while firing??:guns:)

What the hell are you talking about?

Did you know that NVG's have a limited lifespan and require maintenance? And are available commercially? In fact I can buy them easily in a high street shop?

Stop with your fantasies about equipment being sold under pretenses. It just makes you look dumb. And further more, learn to respect someone who is sharing knowledge with you....... the only thing that suppresses the Muslim brotherhood is a lot of self centred stupidity.

i am curious to know about following:

1. what is the difference between Thermal Imaging (TI), Imaging Infra Red (IIR) and Forward Looking Infra Red (FLIR).

2. Army Aviation has started using helmet mounted night vision goggles. what about PAF. Are they using NVGs in night flying.

thanking in anticipation for answers

Yes our F-16 pilots are using them, 9 sqd, 11, Sqd, All F-7pg's and ofcourse 6 sqd C130 pilots.

This might give you an idea. Thermal Imaging ( heat)

FLIR.

hell?? I am not talking about hell, I was referring to news (The news) item which quoted senior defence officials from US and Pakistan saying that periodic checks are hampering war on terror and NVG were one of many items and report further said that Taliban were timing their cross broder operation (obviously shifting of load) in these times.

So whats so stupid in it???? its a common knowledge that americans do keep inventory check on the wepons provided and they occainally also accuse us of shifting 'such n such' to china for reverse engineering.

So why r u getting so annoyed over it??? I am not in any fantasy I am just telling you what i see and by the way I did in quite a light way why r u fusming so much, i didnt put frog in your pants or did i??

and man mind your words before you utter them what do u mean by lot of 'self centerd stupitdy', you can say something to me ut you have no right to pass comments on whole ummah.:flame:

Ahhhhh SENIOR defence officials huh? Got some names? Somehow I doubt it......If these senior officials knew anything they would know the following
A) Night vision goggles being inventoried? Why would something that you can buy On e-bay be inventoried?
B)Inventories can be done without withdrawing whole fleets and since the army aviation has had cobras for a long time, and the previous fleet was not inventoried why would the U.S. suddenly start now?
C)The idea that the Inventories would be so regular that the enemy would be able to plot movements by them is almost laughable. Any professional army that would do things that regularly is obviously in poor shape as they seem not to be able to disguise movements and logistics from the enemy.
D)Common knowledge eh? no such thing....lots of rumours and speculation by people who don't know. And the stupid rumours regarding shifting of technology to Chna have been around fro a while and have no merit. Why would the U.S. send the Blk 52's if they were worried over such activities?

And Finally I would like you to tell what this great Ummah has managed to do exactly in the last 100 years and let us all know......I am guessing it is bugger all.....I think I can say that despite your pointless threats.....

And I suggest you speak to senior members a little more respectfully......

I hav seen both the videos.
They are great.
So can we assume that TI and FLIR are one and the same thing.
what is the significane of using these terms separately

the night vision the americans have provided for war on terror pact are third and fourth generation which only america at the momment has the ability to produce in good quality .while IOP produces 2nd generation which i still think are pretty amazing because i use a gen1+ rilfe scope for hunting with a doubler lense and is amazing but ofcourse the military needs are different !! so back to the question yes we have to give americans back the 3rd and 4rth generation night vision back because ist they need to be serviced second they dont want taliban to get there hand on this equipment but that was then back in 2007 and now its different i just spoke to one on my cousin's serving in swat and he told me that all the night operation are being carried with every solider have the night vision technology and as we have seen this has made a hell of diference in OUR ARMYs sucess !! p.s American 3rd and 4rth gens are only used by special forces while regular army uses pak made night vision which have also been sold to sirilanka bangladesh and two more countires one in indonasia i guess .

I wonder if anyone knows about the news that Turkey provided Pakistan with night vision googles for operation against terrorists. A Turk friend of mine told me this but I could not verify.

^ yes turkey did provided us with night vision well actully they are advance and compact Thermal vision rifle scopes for special forces not in large numbers though !
