Pakistan Govt unable to stop industries shifting to Bangladesh: Secy

Bhagwan kare!
Eagerly waiting for the day when Bangladesh surpasses Pakistan not just in total economic development but also per capita income.
Chances are very rare
Pakistan is ahaed of bangladesh in almost all economic parameters.

Bangladesh should not measure its development against Pakistan although it is understandable why this is so.

We must develop our country that encompasses all its populace.

Industries move where the wages are low so it is understandable there is not much anything any country can do.

We need to recognise that BD itself is a huge market in its own right. I truely do believe that we can move ahead of both Pakistan and India..... The dynamic is there as are the stats .... It's only a matter of time...... We just need calm politics..... The private sector in the country will do the rest...

Development only in cities (Shiny glass towers and public transport projects otherwise known as 'signature' capital projects meant to placate the educated nationalists) is hollow development

lolwa....

You find this funny.

As late as 1994 (1994 not 1694!) there was an outbreak of Bubonic Plague (Black Death) in Surat.

30,000 people left in two days. Some 52 people died within days.

Ignoring healthcare at the grassroots level can have massive consequences on an economy.

Like I said - it can (and will) come back to bite you in the @ss one day.

There's no element of d*ck measuring going on there.

False news. I know guys who had shifted factories to BD and have now closed them due to various issues including political turmoil.

You're telling this to a member from Kerala .We do realize the fact that healthcare is important. But infrastructure development too is needed.

wow GDP of pak is 250 billions dollars and GDP of Bangladesh is 205 billion dollars. Bangladesh needs almost 10 years to suppress Pakistan
All the best Bangladesh :)

Bangladesh is playing safe. Their debt is only about 30% of GDP as compared to 55% for Pakistan & 52% for India. Gross national saving is 28% compared to 13% for Pakistan& 34% for India.(figs 2013). If BD takes the debt levels to 50% of GDP, you can see them galloping with 20% upside.

Thanks for your input.Bangladesh is also only country in South Asia which have current account surplus. Our Govt. don't borrow that much from foreign financial sources. It may responsible for somewhat slow development project but it is also safer for the long term economic health. After all a lot of foreign cash waste in different ways or go back to their origin countries but the debt remain and continue to pile up.

India BD and Pakistan should create and take advantage of regional strengths by working together. For example Paistan has certain resources that India can exploit much better. Similarly India has such a consumer base that both Pakistani and BD industries can gain by marketing to. Stabilizing Sunderbans is critical for the entire region and that can only be done when India and BD can collaborate.

Instead of using up all creativity and resources in fighting and neutralizing each other, imagine if the region can use it all for development!

I am not an economist but if you see even the most developed nations like US, UK, Japan etc have substantial debt. Your govt knows best for the lower levels of debt but you have a lot of scope for monetary input through debt that can create jobs and engage people. You are lucky to be not wasting your resources on defence and focus on development and diplomacy. You are sitting on huge forex reserves. There should not be any excuse for slow growth. Make the hay while sun shines. best wishes.

We should pray for not only economic development but health, educational development in all our countries in South Asia, including Pakistan.

I am not happy to see development in my country at the expense of misery and poverty in neither Pakistan nor India. The whole region will indeed develop, it has nowhere else to go but up.

Slowly impoverished class in South Asia will get smarter and become more demanding - you cannot keep them down in the dumps forever. It is already happening in Bangladesh at the factories. They are expecting higher minimum wages, safer workplaces, subsidized cafeterias, housing allowances. And rightly so. They do work hard.

Development only in cities (Shiny glass towers and public transport projects otherwise known as 'signature' capital projects meant to placate the educated nationalists) is hollow development - it eventually bites a country in its back.

Bangladesh should also invite advanced Indian industries producing high quality stuff, especially Indian automobile manufacturers...Ashok Leyland, Tata, Mahindra, etc.! :D
