Pakistan has completed the construction of the Chashma nuclear power plant II with cooperation from China and the plant has started to produce 100MW of power on a trial basis, which is expected to increase to 300MW in 20 days, from a design capacity of 325MW. The project was completed ahead of schedule in a five-year period and has been connected to the national grid.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission has said that construction of two more reactors at the same site, also with Chinese assistance, has been started and that they will be completed in the next five to seven years. Work is also underway to boost the capacity of the already operating reactors. A senior government official said that the country would install 10 such plants for which six sites have been selected, to boost Pakistan’s nuclear power capacity to 8800MW over a span of 22 years. Pakistan is planning to build a nuclear fuel complex at a cost of PKR51.298bn (US$606m) to locally produce the fuel that will be used by the new plants.

5000 megawatt deficit. 300 megs is a little help. Pakistan needs much bigger projects.

Hi, i have a question for you guys.

What will be the total capacity of the entire plant once all reactors become operational and clears the 'test phase'?

Also why were alternative sources not considered? A hydel power plant with about 5 generators could produce something close to 300 MW. Not to mention the low cost and the avoidance of rigorous protocols.

.
Hydel projects need large land areas which our feudel lords wont give up,only to keep their voters/slaves/tenants in place.

. .
In india's case, the tarapur nuclear plant is our black sheep. Vested interests fearing "public humiliation" would not close it down even though its like a bloody red blotch in the indian nuclear programme.

A hydel project is certainly cost effective . And you can build successive plants generating electricity utilizing the tail race.

.
Still having a diversity in different types of energy is also important, as your not just relying on one energy source.

I hope Pakistan starts to invest in cheap renewable energy like wind turbines, so that they will rely less on gas and oil.

:coffee: China is a nuclear veteran. Who ever heard of China has a major nuclear accident? What about Japan and USA and Russia?

.
thanx to China for their great help in completing various projects in pakistan in different sectors.......
