Readers should keep in mind the number of reversals, the number of accused being set free, because of the failure of the prosecution to make compelling persuasive cases -- and this is curious, given the relatively wide berth investigative agencies have -- What's going on?

Danish embassy bombing suspects acquitted

ISLAMABAD: A court on Saturday acquitted three men charged over a deadly suicide car bomb attack near the Danish embassy in Islamabad in 2008, but prosecutors said they would appeal the verdict.

“The court observed that the prosecution failed to prove the charges and acquitted the three accused men,” said Senior Prosecutor Muhammad Tayyab.

“We will file an appeal in the high court within the 30 days’ stipulated period,” Tayyab said.

Six people were killed and about 27 wounded when the devastating car bomb exploded outside the embassy in June 2008 amidst anger in the Muslim world over the blasphemous cartoons, first printed in Danish newspapers in 2005.

The bomb damaged the mission and the residences of the Indian and Dutch ambassadors, and nearly destroyed a nearby UN agency.

Tayyab said that the prosecution had produced 32 witnesses in court, of whom two “eyewitnesses” testified that they saw suspects Qari Ilyas and Shamsul Haq signalling the suicide attacker towards the target as they sat in a car.

He did not speak about the role of the third accused. The three are the only suspects to have been tried over the attack. afp

Pakistani Judges and courts "sometimes" seem to have some really incredible rules of evidence. It's interesting but it's difficult to not see the interests of certain security and ideological political movements coming together for a replay at some later time.

I am just appalled at this news.. 32 WITNESSES isn't apparently enough. Pakistani court system is in complete and utter shambles. No wonder the army who killed those terrorists (the one caught in the video) did the right thing.. you just cant put these people in trials..

. .
Justice system is really messed up... I oh-so-eagerly wait for the elections.

.
Anyone caught commiting acts of terrorism with 2 or more witness or a video proof shouldnt even be allowed court access!

.
bad news morons are free to go

What if they were really innocent ... the court is the only one to decide in the light of evidence presented wether someone is guilty or not . In our part of the world police/investigating agencies are very inept and corrupt which raises the chances of innocents being charged by the police to comply with deadlines (ever heard ministers saying killers should be caught within 24 hours or else face the music...).

They presented 32 witnesses with two eye witnesses and even that isn't enough. What the f**k.

Well this is pathetic. Now you see why army may have killed people extrajudicially. This has happened several times before in courts - clear cut cases of terrorists being acquitted.

.
okay so if the court acted against the percieved versict, it must have done so with something or someone in mind.

The something being laid out as inappropiate proof.
So lets find out under whose influence was this verdict passed. Of all political entities the Pak army has the final say i believe. With a pro US stance of teh civil govt and the ensuing WOT, who could influence such a decision>

.
We need find out the judge is, and the motives they might have in letting them out.

32 witnesses sir , yes police and agencies are corrupt however terrorism is a common enemy identified by most pakistanis more importantly terrorists have also targeted police and security agencies as well so lets forget about the common man, but dont you think these same corrupt police and agencies will be extra efficient and vigilant when protecting their own lives ? On the other hand the judiciary can be under pressure or threatned as well after all the same enemy is understandbly very powerful and a high or distrcit court judge can be targeted easily
