The UK video draws on local culture, memes, etc.Its a matter of mindset. Our forces say , "Ae khiloanay jang larnay kay liye agehay ya sho sha karnay kay liye"
We can only pray media quality betters with time as our Airforce expands. ISPR is doing a good job. Right now flying a F16 or Jf17 is considered a novelty. Which should not be the case. As our economy improves our purchasing power will increase.Things will improve.USAF have their own media wing along with other branches.
Stuff like this should for PAF and Army requirement.
Absolutely. But there is that cultural difference aswell. Our people are already motivated to join the forces and those people join army generation after generation. Our army reqruitment system works way differently. The UK video draws on local culture, memes, etc.
ISPR is totally out of touch with how its target market/audience thinks because it hasn't even defined who it's specifically targeting. A lot of the times, it seems the videos are pen-on-napkin pet projects of specific generals with way too much free time.
Alpha Bravo Charlie will go down as a GOAT military drama in Pakistan because it was aimed at the families of officers, i.e., to give them an idea of what their fathers do everyday, and for us brats to see how others like us go through the same kinds of challenges as us. Right down to the little things, such as knock-off clothing of Western brands, the "doodh wala," etc up to the military tactics, harsh realities in Siachin, etc, we fell in love with it and the characters.
Absolutely. But there is that cultural difference aswell. Our people are already motivated to join the forces and those people join army generation after generation. Our army reqruitment system works way differently.
So we need a different type of media strategy.
A village boy or a farmers son donot look to youtube for career prospects.
Maybe a few billboards and tv adds may only be required. Although sometimes I wonder do we really need advertisement. As people already have a craze for joining the army. Online media is only effective for those wanting to become officers. The havaldar/soldier can be attracted by tv adds.
This was a great piece by ISPR.
Yes I agree. We should also improve the educational standards of the human resource that gets fed into the system. From the ordinary soldier to an officer. We need those to attract higher caliber of officers for sure so advertising does make an impact. In the longer run, when/if people are better prospects of earning a living, it will be even more important to attract talent.
A Spicejet plane going to Kabul and overflying Pakistan almost got shot down. Passengers and Crew should thank the Pakistan Air Force and their Defense Department for sparing their lives.
Every flying aircraft has a transponder that transmits its identity, make of air craft and other information to the world. In this case, the SpiceJet aircraft, although being civilian, was transmitting itself as an Indian Air Force jet. Pakistan would not have been at fault had it shot down this plane instead of escorting it out of Pakistan.
Look at this way too. It could be another Pulwama that was planned. Pakistan shooting down our civilian plane would be a sure recipe for war and everyone in the country would have supported it.
So was this tampering of the transponder done due to instruction of a sick mind? Someone who has always used dead bodies to win elections.....
Read what actually happened in the words of retired Air Force Pilot Rajendra Bhaduri
SINISTER...UTTERLY SINISTER
SPICEJET INCIDENT
It is not just a simple "clerical error" that can lead to this incident as is being attempted to be potrayed by Govt of India. It seems to be a far more sinister affair.
I as a Pilot in Command am responsible for all codes transmitted by my aircraft transponder. I am supposed to know what has been programmed by ground crew in systems that are not handled by me and my aircrew. In case such an "error" has happened and the pilots and the airlines is not aware, it is betrayal by the govt towards bonafide citizens of India ie; Spicejet, its pilots and other crew of the aircraft, also of the 120 passengers who were put in harms way.
The news report says that the code was of an IAF AN32 and the Spicejet Boeing has been flying with this error to international destinations like Colombo or Bangkok with this same wrong transponder code for the last 20 days.
It is impossible that the Air Defence authorities of Sri Lanka or Thailand will not notice this error or disregard the issue of a "Indian military aircraft" entering their airspace without clearence. It is rather stupid to accept that Thaliand and/or Sri Lanka will not react to an unscheduled intrusion of their airspace by a foreign military aircraft and only Pakistan will.
Though civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola thanked his Pakistani counterpart Sharukh Nusrat for handling the situation calmly, it wouldn't have been any violation by PAF F16s to shoot down the Spicejet Boeing with 120 passengers on board for a Indian "military aircraft" intrusion into Pak airspeace so soon after the standoff over Pulwama/Balakot. Not that BJP ministers and leaders have made it any calmer since then in continuing to drum up war hysteria ever since.
Not to forget, Just after the Kargil war in 1999, IAF MiGs had shot down an unarmed Pakistan Navy Atlantique aircraft after having identified it to have intruded into Indian airspace in Kutcch area. That had lead to loss of 16 Pak navy officers and men including the 2 pilots.
When it comes to military intrusion between India and Pakistan, there is no "love lost". We shoot first and talk later. We must thank the Pakistan authorities including the PAF F16 pilots for not shooting first.
NOTE: Only bhakts will swallow the crap story of the DGCA "clerical error", in any case Modi sarkar is thriving on "Xutiyon ko bhakt banana, aur Bhakton ko Xutiya banana"!!

On the morning of August 30, air traffic controllers at Lahore were startled to find that an “Indian military aircraft” had entered the Pakistan airspace. They were confused, too, as according to the flight plan and identification by the pilot, it was a civilian Boeing 737 plane but was transmitting the code of a military aircraft. They asked the pilot to hold the aircraft and alerted the Pakistan Air Force, which sent two F-16 fighter jets to escort it for about half an hour till it exited the country’s air space.
As things turned out, it was actually a SpiceJet flight with 120 passengers on board heading to Kabul from Delhi. The reason for the mistaken identity was a clerical error by an official of India’s aviation regulator, which assigned a military code while registering the SpiceJet aircraft. The unprecedented situation, barely a month after Pakistan had reopened its airspace post-Balakot air strike tension, prompted the Prime Minister’s Office to step in. Soon after, an official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was suspended.
In a warm gesture, civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola thanked his Pakistani counterpart Sharukh Nusrat for handling the situation calmly. That done, the incident has forced DGCA to speed up its work on digitising the aircraft records. The regulator recently selected Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for the process.
Sources aware of the development said SpiceJet had approached DGCA early August for registration of the aircraft which was earlier with Jet Airways. According to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) norms, while registering an aircraft, aviation regulators all over the world assign a unique 24-digit code called Mode-S — a digitised identification number. The alpha-numeric code is relayed by a transponder that can be identified by advance radar surveillance system in order to improve air navigation system and stop airspace incursions.
DGCA, however, creates a pool of such codes and allots a certain number to each airline. When airlines approach DGCA for registering a new aircraft, the regulator checks its air worthiness and assigns a code. Sources said in this manual process, the concerned DGCA official wrongly assigned the SpiceJet aircraft a code of Antonov AN-32--an aircraft used by the Indian Air Force.
“In those days, work was hectic. SpiceJet was adding at least two to three aircraft daily in its fleet. The error crept in and no one took notice,” said a government official. Following the closure of Jet Airways, SpiceJet added 22 aircraft of Jet in two months.
The aircraft operated with the military code for almost 20 days and also operated to international destinations like Colombo and Bangkok. But no one took note until it went into Pakistani air space.
“Incorrect or missing Mode-S code, whether caused by individual equipment malfunctions or human input error, may prevent aircraft from being presented on air traffic controller surveillance displays and, and result in potentially hazardous situations,” a direction by European Union Aviation Safety Agency says.
A senior official of India’s air navigation authorities defended the oversight, saying that normally air traffic controllers work on primary and secondary radar systems, which give details of height, speed and altitude, among others.
“Only when there is a heightened surveillance, secondary surveillance radar system is used to track the Mode-S code. Pakistani airspace must be using it for Indian aircraft due to the current situation,” the official said.
Sources said the Lahore air traffic control acted maturely and asked the pilot to hold the aircraft and informed the Air Force. PAF then sent the fighter jets in order to verify the aircraft. The pilot, who has 12 years of experience, didn’t panic and complied with the direction from the ATC,” the person said.
In 1988, a US warship had shot down an Iranian aircraft after it had mistaken it as a military aircraft, killing all 290 passengers on board. Following the incident, DGCA has automated the process of issuing codes to aircraft. “We have cross checked all codes assigned to ensure there is no such cases of duplication. A lesson has been learnt,” a senior DGCA official said.
