Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman told China Daily that Pakistan is evaluating, among other options, three or four Chinese surface-to-air missiles including the advanced "HQ-18".

Jane's Defence News, a publication that specializes in military topics, reported that China was building the Hong Qi-18 (HQ-18) missile system based upon the Russian S-300V1 type 2 (SA-12A "Gladiator"), presumably under a license agreement. But this has not been confirmed by the Chinese military.

Suleman also said China had completed the first of four Chinese ZDK-03 airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft for the Pakistan Air Force on Nov 13.

"The delivery to Pakistan will start in the early part of next year," said Suleman, who is also chief of the air staff of the Pakistan Air Force.

I know this is very effective system but since India has this won't it know what to expect and how to deal with such a system.

wait, that would mean that either its is based on the Russian system and Russia has agreed to let china re-export it (unlikely)

or

based on s-300 but not through specific license agreement

or did they mean china had a agreement for the s-300 then based the HQ-12 (ie: su-27 deal) off of that

This is old news and already a thread there for it.

Plus it is mis-leading now, because the ZDK-03 will be delivered this year, in 2011, not 2012.

Someone reading the news would think that next year as 2012.

looks deadly to me why not pakistan go for BUK air to surface missile system which is more mobile than this bt is medium range which we dont need if we can get both it willl enhance greatly our capabilities of surface to air war and russian foreign ministr is due in isalamabad today for talks

After India airforce intervention in Pakistani space after Mumbai attack. Pakistan is actively seeking high altitude defence system. PAF should go for it early as possible, because these high tech weapon takes longer time to induct in forces.

When the Whole World is talking about S-400 and S-500, u are still evaluating S-300 ( HQ 18) . Dont worry, India will not attack Pakistan.

HQ18 is a unique system, BASED on the S-300, so if you where able to read English you would know that it is not the S-300, meaning its like the Russian system but naturally will have modifications and improvements to it.

MOD EDIT: No need to get personal

S400 is only in the hands of Russia and S500 is still on a drawing board. So talking is nice but getting is unrealistic. Besides that, the whole world is talking about spacefighters, building stealthfighters and using atleast 4.5 gen aircrafts. Why is India still flying Jaguar, Mig21Bison, Mirage 2000H etc etc? I thought it was serious a worldpower? The LCA has shown the rest of the world how not to manage projects. And is it 4.5 generation?

The S-300 can be used with ground base AESA radars increasing their effectiveness( for details ask ptdlm3)
I would really like the Chinese instead directly producing AESA for planes use ground base AESA with HQ-18 as an experimental testbed

I bet the Chinese version will not be easy manipulated by Israeli/USA fighterjets. Ask Syria. They could not even see the enemy fighterjets on their radarscreens. Call it less or lower then, it is going to do the job better then anything else. In the end that counts. We, Pakistani, know how it is when you get latest but when you need them the most they run away and stop delivering parts. I wish India all the best getting US products.
