President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said Sunday that Pakistan is engaged in an undeclared war with Afghanistan while commenting Afghan government’s efforts to end the ongoing violence in the country.

He said Afghanistan is in need of reconciliation process in two different phases which includes peace with neighboring Pakistan as the country is engaged in an undeclared war with Afghanistan.

President Ghani made the remarks during a ceremony where Masoom Stanikzai was formally introduced to assume charge as the acting defense minister.

He said the Afghan government and people want a dignified, substantial and endurable peace since the national interests of the country are only guaranteed through a peace achieved with dignity.

He assured the Afghan police, army, members of the intelligence agency and the Afghan people that the government will never compromise with national interests of the country and promised that the reconciliation process would take place within the framework of the Afghan constitution and based on the instructions of Islamic values.

President Ghani also added that the ongoing violence has been enforced on Afghanistan and the Afghan people and reiterated that Afghanistan does not favor war.

The remarks by President Ghani comes as the government of national unity has stepped up efforts to bring the anti-government armed militant groups to negotiation table in a bid to end the ongoing insurgency in the country.

This comes as a delegation of Afghan high peace council met with the Taliban representatives in Qatar earlier this month to hold preliminary talks on peace process.

For domestic consumption alone. His actions show different from his words to his domestic audience.

I thought you Indians WANTED a western stooge, as they supposedly have the same goals as India (or so India has always claimed).

It's politics, his actions speak louder than words, and his actions have already brought gains to Afghanistan. All he needs to do now is agree to arm his forces with heavy weapons through Pakistan, which may happen soon.

Not sure if the statement is authentic and certainly doesn't corroborate with the fact PM Ghani is supportive of Afghan intelligence agency being trained by Pakistani intel.

Ashraf Ghani is a very MUCH Pakistan Man.

.
Some surprise there. I mean Pakistani military operating 30-40 kilometres deep inside Afghan territory for the past year or so maybe is only there for picnic and playing golf.

.
His actions suggest otherwise. This comment is hence probably to pacify sections of the domestic audience. If he genuinely meant what he said then afghans might as well "elect" karzai aka the president of kabul back into power and continue their usual moaning and digging even deeper their own grave.

This comment by Ghani is similar to what Pakistaini politicians were saying about drone strikes for the last 6-7 years, an attempt to satisfy the masses. His actions suggest that he is more than willing to work with Pak.

Wow! That's straight from the horse's mouth! There must be truth to this (As if we didn't know already!)

But didn't Ghani visit Pakistan recently to mend fences and even signed some reconciliation agreements with Pakistan which needless to say came under a lot of fire and criticism within Afghanistan, and is now being reviewed!

But he still maintains that Pakistan is waging an undeclared war against his country in spite of their promises not to interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan during his visit? What the heck's going on?

.
He is feeling the heat and backlash from that MOU with the ISI. Which btw, is just words on a paper and has no mandated obligations.

.
This is a BIG statement

Looks like the Taliban spring offensive has really made everything CLEAR to Mr Ghani
