Pakistan elected for UN temporary seat

I was not quoting you at the first place! It was you who needed to take a chill pill instead of unnecessary quoting me and ranting all over :)

Your posts show that you desperately need it. Don't hesitate take it. :)

WASHINGTON: Winning the bare minimum required to win the hotly contested elections, Pakistan won a seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term.

Securing 129 out of 193 votes in the United Nations General Assembly, exactly the two-third majority required to win the seat, Pakistan will now be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in a term that begins on January 2012 and will end in December 2013. The seat is on the Asia-Pacific and Africa group, where Pakistan will join India amongst other countries as non-permanent members. Morocco was also elected as a member of the non-permanent seats in the UNSC. Pakistan’s sole competition was expected to be with Kyrgyzstan, which was also hopeful of winning the Asia-Pacific seat. According to reports, Pakistan had secured support from India, China and the UAE amongst other countries to help Pakistan win the election.

Means no support from USA? If that is the case then thanks a lot we are not under US's obligation..

.
ok thanks..

Sparky our neighbourhood should have more rights when the likes of fance and uk both have perm seats. Between china pakistan and india and the neighbourhood we represent half of the worlds population. Can you imagine if our useless political leaders got their act together how the common man could and would benefit?

US wasnt going to support us this time, it was clear from the beginning. Apart from the usual Indian nonsense being spread on every thread, this one being no exception, fact is we managed to get Indian vote as well, speaks volume about our diplomatic efforts.
Some members suggested that we barely did it, fact is we did it, does not matter whether it was barely or not and lets not forget, we are in a direct confrontation with the worlds sole super power and they will stop at nothing to cause hurdles between Pakistan and its efforts.
While i appreciate the India vote, the attitude displayed here by Indians is pathetic to say the least. Your arrogance is highly unwanted and un called for.

Doesn't say anywhere that the US did not support Pakistan, just mentions names of the three countries which supposedly did. Who knows, maybe US was one of the other 126 countries. Remember, we are not supposed to find out since it was a secret ballot voting.

I dont understand. By the sheer number of people that India has surely they should be a permenant member of the UN.
Congratulations to Pakistan and a big thank you for India for backing us. I hope both nations make strides forward on the international table and gain respect from all

What make me to think that way are the reports which specifically explain possible resistance from US... Anyway, you are right, you'll never know who has voted for you and who hasn't.

True, it was a secret ballot. There is no way of knowing for sure who voted for you or not.

Maybe that will stop the Indians in this thread, from trying to claim credit for everything.

Like this nonsense:

That crucial vote came from India which bailed you out

Congratz Pakistan,
Remember "With more power comes more responsibility"
I wish that Pakistan's government work for the benifit of the region while being the member of this elite council.
