Of Course it would be expensive.But GoI is already initiated the talks with Iran and Oman and one of our company already did necessary feasibility and requirement study.That means Govt of India dont have any problem with it.

Pipelines are supposed to be a very economical way to get oil and gas.

Building it under the sea is going to put the costs through the roof, and that means the gas is more expensive.

I think you missed where it says $30 billion investement for land pipeline from Russia and 5 billion from under water pipeline from Iran and Oman.

The question is safety, an underwater pipeline would be much safer for us, and keep us out of the hassle of dealing with Pakistan.

It dsnt matter mate how long is the pipe,what matters is whats it delivering,both are ment for the same purpose.

Iran line is much safer,the terrain russian pipeline passes through is too unstable and unpredictable.

The only feasible pipeline route from Russia or Central Asia to India, is through western China.

Since we already have numerous pipelines to Central Asia, and are building many more to Russia.

So India has to choose between Pakistan, China and Arabian Sea, soon to be controlled by...well Pakistan and China.

It offers us no benefit to allow India to have energy security. We can still by gas from Russia by linking up our own pipe with the one the Chinese are already building.
