Pakistan Denies Operation in N. Waziristan

@AzadPakistan2009,
You are kind of 'losing' it. Better put on that Gabbar Singh avatar--you made more sense then.

A good question to raise would be what the F is the ANA doing on their side of the border?! if the narrative is that there are militants crossing over from Pakistan into Afghanistan then why can’t they stop the ingress into Afghanistan ?! What kind of an army is the ANA that cannot protect its borders ?!
kanjarzai wants to keep the border open since he still hangs onto the wet dream of pakhtunistan and durand line
We should just nuke the place and put everyone one out of their misery , this cannot go on indefinitely , the new Nasr short-range tube launched missiles with tactical nukes warheads should be put into use and we should hit targets not just in NWA but across the border into Afghanistan , including NATO/US and Indian installations.
This is bullshit man! They just want that we should suffer , I say we F them all

What is a credible evidecne? Should uncle Musharraf take the kid in his lap and then confess his faults and blunders to him. Just google boy, you will find tons of "creidible" evidences.

If simply googling something is the source of your knowledge, then only Allah can mend your brain.

@Pakdefender,
You too need the Gabbar Singh avatar :)

Any operation that will not include hitting targets inside afghansitan will be waste of effort , there are many credible reports that border guards on the afghan side have facilitated militants crossing over and in order to stem this flow we have to hit targets inside afghansitan.

In 10 years the ANA has not been able to come up to the standard to defend its borders then what is the use of this 'national army’? It needs to be disbanded they are part of the problem in this border mess up

Pakistan should move into N Waziristan , and keep marching all the way into Kabul

Set up a 100 km buffer zone , that starts from Kabul with Pakistani borders and have JF17 Thunders patrol these regions to protect pakistan from insurgents

And ideally lets just take over Afghanistan and make it a province of Pakistan , case closed -

This is the best ideal solution for Pakistan/US , we take over security of new province and no more drone attacks from US

You could take over Afghanistan completely and it wouldn't solve the problem. You need to look more introspectively to come up with the solutions. And then you need the will to make them happen. Personally I don't believe Pakistan has the will to do this. You are to fragmented as a society with the radicals having the sympathies of a large portion of the population. Which will only get bigger if you don't do something about the Madrassas. As evidenced by many posts I see here.

Well we know that ANA isn't really a proper army, so its expecting too much of them to actually keep track of the border. The bigger question would be: what is the mighty NATO doing? Where were they when countless of militants have attacked Pakistani border posts?

What exactly have you people been doing in afghanistan for the past 10 years ? we know you have been eating burgers from burger king at bagram but what else have you been doing that even now even as far as Herat PRT offices come under attack ?!
What is the use of the Afghan National Army ? Don’t they have any idea how to defend the borders of their country?
Pakistan is convenient scape goat to hide the incompetence’s of the US army and it training methods which have failed to raise an army capable of defining its own borders even after 10 years

@Thomas,
Fragmented, yes. But can united in a flash as well.
Also consider that Bin Laden's death could not even being 10,000 people to mourn him in a country of 180 million. How is that?
About solutions, well, attacking one Lal Masjid caused so much blowback and violence. Things will have to be done gradually. There are no Ata Turks in Pakistan. And even if they was one the task is humongous. A reversal of about 2 decades sleeping on the wheel (1979-2001)...

Pakistan most certainly did have the problem of the terrorists as Pakistan ran bin Laden out of Peshawar, into Afghanistan, where bin Laden et al then concocted the 911 attacks in the USA.

Pakistan has not been safe since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, I agree. That long war led to millions of Afghan Pashtuns in camps inside Pakistan, and the trouble stirred up by the Arab Wahabbist movement out of Saudi ensued.

This led to setting up terrorist training focused madrassas which brought the front lines of terrorism smack inside and into all parts of Pakistan.

I am not so sure.
Madrassahs with the rote system of Islamic-only education have existed in the sub-continent for hundreds of years. It is true that 'political Islam' was introduced by Zia in Pakistani Madrassahs from 1979 onward. But it still took about a quarter of a century after that before suicide bombing and other acts of terrorism started inside Pakistan.
Madrassahs definitely need reform. And that's what I meant by 'sleeping at the wheel'.
I think there are lot of factors in the violence inside Pakistan. I think one often over-looked one is at least an element of Pashtun nationalism, spearheaded by the Talibans, in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Pakistani troops drive past wreckage of a gutted aircraft destroyed by militants attacks at Pakistan Navy base in Karachi, Pakistan. Facing a surge in violence after the killing of Osama bin Laden, Pakistanis are taking comfort in conspiracy theories that allege Indian or American agents, not fellow Muslim countrymen, are behind the attacks, especially this week's brazen assault on a naval base.

Pakistan has decided to launch an air and ground military offensive in North Waziristan, the main sanctuary for al Qaeda and Taliban on the border with Afghanistan, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The United States has long demanded that Pakistan launch an offensive in the region to hunt down the Haqqani network, one of the deadliest Afghan militant factions fighting American troops in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has been reluctant, but has come under intense U.S. pressure to attack militancy after it was discovered that Osama bin Laden had been living there.

The News newspaper quoted unnamed "highly placed sources" as saying Pakistani airforce planes would soften up militant targets under the "targeted military offensive" before ground operations were launched.

The newspaper said an understanding had been reached over the offensive during last week's visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

A U.S. embassy official said he was checking into the report. Pakistani officials were not immediately available for comment.

Pakistan has maintained that its troops were already too stretched fighting Pakistani Taliban insurgents in other parts of the northwest to tackle North Waziristan.

But analysts say Pakistan sees the Haqqani network as an asset to counter the growing influence of rival India in Afghanistan.

Hot of the press!

Question is: What is being offered by Americans in return? I certainly don't think Pakistanis would be lured by the peanut of 'aid' after being deliberately humiliated by American media and politicians (though generals were more careful).

Plan for operation in N. Waziristan finalised: Mullen | Newspaper | DAWN.COM

We had a very good, frank, open discussion that touched on a wide range of issues. We thought it was important to have the meeting face to face to reaffirm the commitment to the relationship,” he said.

“The Bin Laden raid, specifically is something that I know the Pakistani military, the Pakistani intelligence agencies are focusing on.”

Admiral Mullen noted that Pakistan was located in a very critical part of the world. “We have common interests, and it’s important that both sides continue to commit to eradicating those terrorists.”

The US military chief pointed out that in the US “one of the things that does not get enough focus is the sacrifices that the Pakistani military has made over the course of the last several years”.

They have lost thousands of soldiers in this fight while “10-plus thousand” were wounded.
