Checkmate is really not likely since it is not even a flying prototype yet. It will take several years and definitely only after securing orders to become flying prototype and then another 5 to 10 years to complete development and ready for first production.

Pakistan may be or become one of the orders like sign and invest certain amount and they will develop it to completion and then the customers can choose to buy. Russia will not spend all the funds required to develop this fighter. However it can be an option for Pakistan for 5th generation fighter. Russians will only allow it to take Russian weapons and since the bays will be designed for Russian weapons only. Which means PAF will have three streams of weapons, American, Chinese, and Russian all in the 4th generation to 5th generation domains.
