The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has offered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) 25 acres of land near D-12 for a cricket stadium.
CDA Chairman Noorul Amin Mengal stated that the board had 150 acres of land that it intended to develop for sports.
The proposed stadium, which would be used for international matches, is expected to increase the beauty of Islamabad. The remaining land will be used to develop other sports facilities. The proposed site is outside of Zone III, but the chairman stated that even if it falls within the zone, the CDA could use it for sports facilities, as it had done near Aabpara.
In 2018, the Supreme Court cancelled the construction of a stadium in Shakarparian, which had been jointly constructed by the PCB and CDA. The CDA has since decided to offer new sites for the stadium to the PCB.
The government declared 2,250 acres as a sports centre in Shakarparian in 1960, but in 1979, it included the area in the national park and Zone III, preventing the construction of new facilities.
