It is up to her, she has the most right to determine her future. Just like the Sikh girl from a few weeks back who ran away from abusive family to marry her beloved.

This concept of control over females is wrong and un-Islamic, which is present in all religious communities of Pakistan.

Once a woman reaches adulthood, which in Islam is puberty, she has every right to marry whomever she chooses, this means no forced marriages by parents or relatives.

A woman can emancipate herself if she feels her rights and views are not respected. She would be treated as independent, able to make her own decisions. She does not need a wali then.

She is 14 years old.

I dont care if she reached puberty or not, she is not an adult capable of making rational decisions.

.
We have a legal age of marriage of 16? So how can this marriage he legal? Kangaroo courts with clowns in robes.

Reaching puberty doesn’t mean a child is either physically or mentally ready to make a decision to enter marriage.

Reaching puberty is just one condition in Islam that defines and appropriate age for marriage - there are other conditions such as reaching an age of maturity at which one can properly understand and handle their own affairs etc. For most women/girls, such an age should be legally defined as 17/18.

.
The thing that most posters commenting on this are missing is the fact she was 14, she was kidnapped, forcibly converted and raped and married off to her kidnapper.

That is not a fact, that is the opinion of the website which you shared. There is nothing substantiated to back up that assertion.

Indian websites should never be trusted when reporting on Pakistani news, they always spin it with lies and fabrications.

She simply eloped and converted to Islam. That is not a crime. The wishes of the girl in question are the most important.

Islam's minimum age of marriage is puberty, and no law which is against fiqh can be passed in Pakistan. That is the rationale for the decision.

I support this girl, and her freedom to do as she wishes. She is 14 years old, many EU countries allow marriage for women that young as well.

Agree, in Islam age is one condition and we have to check other conditions like body growth, mental maturity etc. Human brain mostly completes its growth around 40 years... Becoming an adult is an individual condition depending on his/her experience/body development etc. Becoming an adult on 18th year is just the western liberal rule which they are forcing on other countries, culture and religion.

According to Islam, just rape would be enough for a death sentence. Once, one of the generals of Umer R.A raped his captor and he gave him death sentence. however, this is Pakistan...

There is no proof of rape or abduction. It is another girl who was being forbidden from marrying the man she wanted, which forced her to elope.

This happens everywhere in the world. In Pakistan, Islam is blamed for no reason.

We all know Indian websites and newspapers are full of shit and print fake news, but do you have proof she eloped? And a 14 yo child can't make that decision, you sound like someone who is making excuses.

Karachi:

The parents of a 14-year-old Pakistani Christian girl, who was abducted, forcibly converted to Islam and married off to her abductor, will approach the Supreme Court after a lower court ruled that marriage with an underage girl is valid as per the Sharia law if she has had her first menstrual cycle.

Huma was 14 when she was abducted in October last year and forced to marry her abductor Abdul Jabbar after being converted to Islam, according to her parents Younis and Nagheena Masih.

Their counsel Tabassum Yousuf on Friday said they would seek justice from the Supreme Court after the Sindh High Court, as per the Sharia law, said earlier this week that even if the girl, Huma, was found to be underage, the marriage between her and her alleged abductor, Jabbar, would be valid as she has already had her first menstrual cycle.

After they approached the Sindh High Court to see their daughter, the court, in a hearing on February 3, ordered the police to oversee the tests to confirm her age.

However, Judges Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Irshad Ali observed that under the Sharia law, the marriage would be valid even if Huma was underage.

Tabbasum said that the ruling was not in accordance with the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act passed in 2014 which outlawed marriages of girls under 18 years, in a bid to stop forced marriages of minors in the province, primarily of Hindu and Christian community.

“The girl’s parents were convinced that the police investigating officer was supporting Abdul Jabbar and his family. They also fear that the test results of Huma’s age could be falsified and she might be sent with her husband,” the lawyer said.

The parents had requested to keep Huma at a women”s shelter away from her alleged husband until her age was determined.

Tabassum said the parents produced documents including church, school documents confirming Huma”s age to be 14.

On the website of the Independent Catholic News, the girl’s mother has appealed to the international community to support them.

The latest case has emerged amidst an increasing number of forcible conversions of girls belonging to the minority communities in Muslim-majority Pakistan.

In the last one month, at least two cases of forced conversion and marriage of Hindu girls after abduction have emerged in the province.

That because we declare our countries as an Islamic, in reality we use Islamic labels just to satisfy our local population be it Pakistan, Iran or Saudi Arabia and the morally corrupted population knows that. It's a shame that muslims/non-muslims are running from Islam because of our deeds. May Allah give us hiddaya Ameen

Ameen.

Here a girl converted to Islam and entered our faith, but Pakistanis can't be happy. Same as the eloped Sikh girl, they are more concerned about image than our own citizens.

No matter what we do, our image will be tarnished by West. Let's make the quality of life for our people better and give women rights to choose their husbands.

As if a sensationalist Western news source like USA Today is any better?

What do the court proceedings say about your assertion? What does the girl have to say?

Stop hiding behind bigotry and islamophobia.

Becoming an adult on 18th year is just the western liberal rule which they are forcing on other countries, culture and religion.
18 is a reasonable age, for girls at least, that allows a fair degree of physical and mental scientific yardsticks to be met. This has nothing to do with the liberal west.

Everyone nature’s at a different age, but since it isn’t really feasible to set up a ‘test’ to determine adulthood, setting a standard age is a reasonable approach.

what if the situation was reversed? would you then still be advocating for "freedom of choice" for the child, girl or woman?

Anyone who has hung out with younger kids should understand that most 14/15 year olds are nowhere close to being ready mentally to live independently or get married. And I say ‘most’ because there will always be exceptions, but we can’t go by exceptions to the rule.
