Pakistan completes construction of gate at Torkham border

I will have to respectfully disagree, Sir. This is not just a simple gate. This is a screening point on a very busy border crossing and for the establishment of which our brave soldiers fought and sacrificed. Indeed a lot more needs to be done and is being done as we speak. We have already seen security posts along the border equipped with GSRs, mortars and bigger guns for the detection and interception of infiltrators. You must've read about the night surveillance systems ordered in the MoD yearbook. We have Military officials on record saying that they'll be upgrading and multiplying that model wherever and whenever necessary.
My friend you can disagree any which way you like. I dont have a problem with people disagreeing with me.
My point of contention is that if you close one border gate a determined terrorist will find another way in. This has been happenning for ages. What we need is an Israel type wall with a road either side of it, and a no man's land mined and barbed to hte hilt to prevent any rat coming in. The same needs to be done to the Iran Pak border.
We have been harping on about it since 2002 and doing nothing as the roughly 2 billion dollars cost needed to be borne by the US or so we thought. Now that they have given us the royal salute anfd told us to take a hike, we have started work on it ourselves.
I would like to wait and see what impact it has on the acts of terrorism insid ethe country. I suspect we will continue to have some low level incidents. However the alternative narrative is that these rats are holed up inside the country and all the gates will not prevent them causing mischief. I dont know how fatr is realistic to go but if we dont go down this route we will keep losing lives and not knowing whether the incident was avoidable. So lets wait before we pass judgement.

We don't have any dispute with Iran right now, so we must dedicate all of all resources to close down border with afghanistan.
We do . There are a lot of low level conflicts on going with Iran. Frankly I fear Iran more than Afghanistan. We have had quite a few incidents where people have infiltrated into Pakistand from Iranian border. Sealing that hole will close one more avenue for the rats to sneak in and close the chapter of insurgency in Baluchistan once and for all.

Does this have any implication on the status of the controversial Durand Line?

. .
It breaks my heart when we use bad words for the Afghans, after all they are our brothers
True. However brotherhood goes both ways. If your brother is not nice to you then he needs to be told so. When I use the word rats I mean anyone who is out to kill people for their deviant ideology. I have no sympathy for them. Otherwise they are out brothers and and the good ones amondst them should be loved as brothers.

The durand line is the established border and has been for 100 years with no contest from the Afghan Government. So what has been acceptable for 100 yrs should not be a point of contention now.

The point of contention is that this is just one step in the right direction and needs to be replicated.

I agree, but swearing will make it worse. You see we have to recognize that elite Afghanistanis have always been against Pakistan but our racism is not against them but against those Afghans who lived here and are not against us. Pakistan supported the Mujahideens and the Taliban. Who were those people? They were common Afghans. So it is natural Afganistani elite will hate us. Frankly I don't even consider them my brother but common Afghan, he is our brother and instead of being nice to them we are making thing worse by going against them.

My suggestion is that instead we should use the word Afgan Elite or the Government not the common people.

This looks like this :D

Love that picture. It depicts six United States Marines raising a U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi, during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.

.

i had the same view on afghans but not anymore they wouldn't know brotherly-ness if it hit them on their faces!

.
But they have HUGE historical and context related differences :enjoy: . But yes, the picture has similarities.

Yup I know the huge differences. But still they look similar. Anyways this picture of Iwo Jima battle is amazing always.
